Oikawa ran until he wasn't physically able to anymore, which was a lot considering how athletic he is. He payed no attention to where he was going, all he could focus on was his feet hitting the pavement of the road. When he finally stopped to catch his breath he looked around and realized that he was lost in the middle of nowhere. Reaching into his back pocket, he searched for his phone with his hand only to realize that he left it on his desk at home.

"Dammit! This fucking sucks!" Oikawa yelled,  tears starting to stream down his face again as turned around and punched the wall of an old brick house he was standing next to. "Shit that hurt," looking down at his fist he realized that his knuckles were starting to bleed. With nothing else to do and nowhere to go, he slumped down against the wall and put his head into his arms, starting to sob once more.

He was so busy crying that he didn't notice the group of people approaching him until one of them spoke. "Well what do we have here? Mind telling me what a pretty boy like you is doing out in the middle of nowhere?" Oikawa looked up only to see a group of shady looking men hovering over him. He quickly wiped off his tears saying, "I just got lost, but I should probably be going now." As he stood up to leave, the man who had first spoken to him slammed his up against the wall as the men behind him snickered.

"Aww don't leave yet, we were just getting started," he said, signaling one of the men behind him to get something out of his backpack. Right as he was about to pull it out, he heard a familiar voice yell at the men causing him to whip his head around. He was surprised to see Ushijima standing there, a bit of sweat rolling down the side of his head.

"Let go of him," Ushijima said, walking towards the men. Just then the man pinning Oikawa to the wall whipped out a knife and held it to Oikawa's throat. "Come any closer and I'll cut him."

Oikawa's eyes widened in fear as he looked to Ushijima, his eyes pleading for help. He was terrified to see Ushijima standing still, not doing anything. There must be something Ushijima could do to help, right?

"Shit, that kid's from Shiritorizawa! He must be rich!" As soon as the man holding Oikawa heard that, he looked over to Ushijima as his eyes widened in surprise. "Do you know what rich people like that can do to us? We could go to jail for a lifetime!"

"Goddammit!" The man holding the knife let go and backed away. "Let's get out of here before we run into more trouble." And with that, the men ran away leaving a shaken Oikawa and Ushijima alone in the alley.

"Your hand is bleeding."

Ushijima bent down to Oikawa's level and took his hand, grabbing an antiseptic and dabbing away the blood. Oikawa looked away the whole time, trying to ignore every time the taller boy glanced at him.

"You didn't have to do that." Oikawa said suddenly. It was the first thing he said since the incident. The whole time they walked to Ushijima's home together he was silent, not knowing what to say and not trusting his voice.

   "Do what?"

"Save me... I mean, you could have gotten hurt too."

"But i didn't," Ushijima looked at Oikawa with a gaze that demanded he look back at him. "You're the one who got hurt. Let me see your neck." Oikawa was hesitant exposing such a vulnerable place on his body but he did anyways, and as Ushijima looked at it he saw that there was a small cut where the knife had been.

After treating his wounds, Ushijima stood up to leave the room. "Wait!" Oikawa grabbed his wrist and stopped him. "I- why? Why would you come after me?" He sniffled as tears came down his face for what felt like the thousandth time today. "Why? I'm your enemy, you should hate me! Come on, tell me that you hate me! So why did you save me? I don't understand," He sobbed, and he wasn't sure why. Maybe because he was still shaken up over the previous events of the night, or maybe because he was finally coming to terms with the fact that his soulmate probably despises him.

Ushijima stood there for a second, barely an emotion registering on his face, before speaking. "Because you are my soulmate." He looked at the red string attaching them before gazing back into Oikawa's eyes. Ushijima was never the best at comforting people but his body moved without thinking, enveloping Oikawa in a hug as he sobbed into his shoulder.

"C-can i maybe stay the night?" Oikawa looked up at the taller male with pleading eyes, hoping that the answer would be yes. Truth be told, he didn't know what he would have done without Ushijima and right now that was his only source of comfort.

"Of course." Ushijima picked Oikawa up and laid him down in his bed before laying down on the other side. "Goodnight. And happy birthday."

Summary: While running away from Ushijima, Oikawa found himself at the mercy of a couple of thugs before Ushijima arrived and saved him. He took Oikawa to his house to tend to his injuries and after talking a bit and comforting Oikawa he ended up staying the night.
