Annabeth

I stare out of my living room window as a moving truck pulled in next door. A woman with brown hair and a kind smile hoped out of the car that followed the truck.

She held a baby wrapped in a pink blanket in her arms. A man with short, sandy, brown hair came up beside her. They smiled at each other and grabbed their suitcases from the back of the car.

I watch as they walked to the front door and entered the key. A movement from the car caught my gaze. A boy my age with raven black hair and sea green eyes stepped out of the backseat.

He yawned and ran a hand through his hair. He grabbed his suitcase and walked towards the house. The woman from before ran out and hugged him, grabbing his suitcase and dragging him inside.

They seemed like a nice, happy, normal family. They seemed perfect. I want perfect. I want nice. I want a happy, normal family.

"ANNABETH!!!!!" My stepmother yells from the kitchen "YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO MAKE DINNER!!!"

I sigh and take one last look at the happy family next door before responding "Coming Helen"

I jog to the kitchen to find my stepmother standing there, tapping her foot impatiently. She slaps me hard across the face and yells at me about my responsibilities in this house. I put on a fake smile and open the fridge.

Half an hour later dinner was on the table and my stepbrothers, Bobby and Mathew, were enjoying their meal. My stepmother and my father were also eating but not as happily.

I glanced at my father before walking away to the comfort of my room.

I walk over to my window and open it. I breathe a deep breath of fresh air. Helen wouldn't let me go outside at all today because she just got her hair done. Ugh. I close my eyes and imagine all the ways I could get rid of Helen.

"H!" A voice says right next to me.

I look around and almost fall out my window when I see no one. "Sorry for startling you." The voice says again. I look up and see the boy from earlier, with raven black hair and sea green eyes.

He smiles at me and waves. I wave back "Hi, I'm Percy Jackson" He says. "Who are you?"

"I'm nobody" I respond. He frowns and his eyebrows knit together in a kinda cute way. Wait- no. Stop. You can't like him. He'll never be with someone like you.

"Come on, you have to be somebody" Percy says.

I laugh and tilt my head. "Of course I'm somebody. I just refuse to be everybody"

He looks super confused now. I laugh again. "Stop laughing. You hurt my person." He mocks and holds his chest. I roll my eyes and giggle at how dramatic he is.

Oh no. I did I just giggle? Snap out of it Annabeth. Get your act together. You just met him. " You're so dramatic." I tell him.

He snaps his fingers in a z motion. "Of course I am. I wouldn't be who I was if I was plain and simple? I mean, who wants to have their whole life planned out?

I freeze. I have my whole life planned out. I'm plain and simple. Wait! Percy doesn't know anything about me. I could be fun and dramatic. I could start over. Make a better friendship then before.

"Of course, that's boring" I respond. Someone yells at Percy from inside his house. He yells back and turn to me.

"What's your phone number wise girl" He asks

I tell him and then ask "Wise girl?"

"Well, yeah. you wouldn't tell me your name so I had to improvise" he says.
