The night was cold and gloomy and the white glow of the moon hardly pierced the thick fog crawling in the city. Wrapped up in my long coat, I was waiting for the signal, a wooden stake held against my chest and an oil lamp in my hand. Bob and Henri were going around the building to hide near the back door. When one of them would whistle, I would go in. The plan was simple: whether I killed the vampire, or Bob and Henri killed it when it would flee. Third option, I died.
Fiiiiut !
The signal. I entered the building with precaution. I did not have the advantage, in the dark, vampires could see far better than humans. I dimly lit the lamp before continuing. The farther I went in the room, the faster my heart beat. If I did not find the vampire, he would find me.
Clang.
I wheeled. A metallic object had just fallen to the ground. The vampire was there. He lurked in the shadows and he was going to play with me. At least, he was going to try.
Criiii.
A door creaked. No, the vampire had not changed rooms. He simply wanted to lure me near the door. He was about to be satisfied. Slowly I headed for the door, and when I arrived in front of it, I turned swiftly and found myself face to face with the vampire. He was taller than me and measured at least 6,2 feet. Awefully pale in the lamp's glimmer and fangs out, he looked at me with deep black and bloodshot eyes. I jumped on him without letting go of the lamp. Although he was stronger, the element of surprise prevented him from resisting the shock and he fell backward. Unfortunately, he pulled himself together too quickly for me and as he got back up blocked my mouth with one hand. The lamp fell, but luckily did not switch off, nor break. He plunged his sharp teeth in my throat. The burn of his freezing bite made me want to scream, but the monster's hand stopped me and it was for the best. Had my colleagues heard me, they would have come in, yet they could not leave their position, otherwise, the plan would fail. The blood sucker blocked my mouth with one hand and firmly held my left arm with the other. But he held it in such a way that I was still able to move my elbow. So I planted the stake in his thigh with all my strength. In a dreadful scream, he let go of me and took his teeth out of my throat, widening the wound at the same time. I let out a moan and put my hand on my neck. I faced him again, the stake high and threatening. He looked at me and I focussed to show in my eyes that I did not fear him. He took a look at his bleeding leg and started for the exit at the back of the building. I chased him. He opened the door without noticing the trap my colleagues had set up and he stumbled on the cord stretched in the threshold and fell flat on his face. He only had time to turn to see Henri and Bob jump on him to hold him still. As I arrived outside too, I leapt over the cord and stabbed him with all my might in the heart. Blood spurted everywhere, splashing in my face. The vampire moaned in pain before falling completely silent.
"Good job, guys!" Henri said. "We bring him back to the office and we go home."
