Jarred
JARRED DUNN
I HAVE JUST ARRIVED IN THE NIF BUILDING; I WILL BE MEETING YOU AT THE BRIEFING ROOM IN FIFTEEN MINUTES.
PATTERSON
It was half past one, when I received the message, and I was surprised by how punctual Mr. Patterson was being. I remembered when I had to wait for him for hours before the press briefing weeks ago.
If Mr. Patterson was early, it meant something urgent was going to be discussed.
I then notified Mark and the both of us walked to the mission briefing office, where plates and cups were already set but nobody was waiting.
We took our seats and the both of us opened the files that we found in front of us.
There were three articles of evidence in the paper: a cloth with fingerprints on it, a baseball bat, and a weapon that apparently needed to be planted in various locations, which the IDA will use to incriminate Ricardo and Natalia in the murder,
"Are we really doing this?" Mark asked.
I nodded.
"Yeah, "I said, looking around the room. I motioned towards a tiny listening device.
Mark then retrieved his phone and typed out a message.
BE HONEST WITH ME, WHO'S SIDE ARE WE ON?
I paused, looking at him, before I typed the next message.
THE SIDE THAT GARAUNTEES OUR WELLBEING, WHICH IM NOT SURE ABOUT YET
I THINK WE SHOULDN'T DO THIS, JARRED
WE HAVE TO. TO PROVE OUR LOYALTY
ARE WE LOYAL TO THE IDA?
AT THIS MOMENT, YES
I checked the time on my phone, quarter two, and right then, Mr. Patterson, accompanied by a bodyguard on his left, entered the room.
Mark and I stood up to greet him.
"It is pleasant seeing you again, Dunn," Mr. Patterson said politely. "You were my bodyguard at the press briefing in January, correct?"
I nodded.
"You must be Marcus George, a well seasoned agent, I've heard," he said, shaking Mark's hand.
He nodded. "A pleasure meeting you, Mr. Patterson,"
He motioned for us to seat down as he took his own seat.
"I think it goes without saying that we have something important to discuss,"
"Yes, sir," we both said.
"Look, I'm not going to lie to you, this murder case had reached a dead end, and because of this, the NIF are planning to frame you two for the murder,"
We both placed looks of shock on our faces. as if we did not already know.
"Well," he continued. "The NIF are under the impression that we intend to comply with this, and that they will, in exchange allow us to prosecute two of their own agents, Natalia Hayes and Ricardo Dominic,"
I could not but help but notice Mark's face change slightly, for a millisecond, when he heard Ricardo's name.
"However, we know that if we were to make our own agents responsible for the murder, this will greatly affect my chances to become the JSAA head, and thus, we've decided it would be better to gather more evidence against the NIF agents, Hayes and Dominic,"
