Chapter 3- The Accident

Hanako: It's late, you should go back to your campsite.

Milly: true.

Everybody says goodbye to Hanako, but Jake stays.

Jake: wanna come back with us?

Hanako: sure

They go back to the campsite. Zander has another dream.

~dream begins~

Hailey: 3...2...1...go!

Everybody jumps into the lake and swims for a while.

After a few minutes, Jake goes underwater.

Everybody starts chatting in the water.

After an hour Jake still hasn't come up.

Zander: Hasn't Jake been underwater for a long time?

Sean: Kinda funny coming from you, but yeah. He has been down there a while.

Jake, screaming: HELP!!!!

Everyone turns to the end of the lake, where Jake is holding onto a fallen tree.

Jake: I can't hold on for much longer!

As Hailey and the rest of the club tries to help him, he loses his grip. Hailey tries to grab his hand, but his other arm slips and he falls down the waterfall.

~dream ends~

Zander wakes up.

Hailey: This is the second time you've slept in! What's up with you today?

Zander looks at them.

Zander, POV: Oh no...they're going swimming!

Zander: Are you going swimming by any chance?

Hailey, confused: Yes...why?

Zander, hesitant: No reason, just wanted to know.

Jake: Chill Zander, what do you think I'm going to do, slip and fall into a waterfall?

Zander, POV: That's exactly what you're going to do.

~at the lake~

Hailey: 3...2...1...go!

Everyone jumps in the water.

Jake: guys, I'm going underwater.

Zander: NO! DON'T DO IT!

Jake: chill...

Jake goes underwater. Zander follows him.

Just as Jake reaches the waterfall, Zander grabs his hand. He tries to pull Jake back, but the water is too strong and pushes both of them to the edge.

Zander, POV: Oh no...

~Zander's POV~

What have I done? I wanted to save him, but all I did was put both of us in danger.

I'm holding onto the fallen tree. I want to let go, but my support is the only thing keeping Jake in a stable position. If I let go, he falls too. If he lets go, we both fall. We need each other.

I want to blame him. He shouldn't have gone underwater. But it's also my fault for grabbing him.

We're both to blame...we're going to die...

If I'm going to die, I'd actually be happy it's with him. I don't want to die alone.

I'm ready to let go when...

~3rd person POV~

Hailey grabs them both and pulls them up.

Hailey: Be careful next time.
