We decided that I asked Melanie about it. But still, it felt very wrong. The suspense is eating me from the insides! What is this that Penny would hide from me? The fact that Tom had a daughter was the first thing she ever his from me. Ever.

Well, apart from the ice cream she normally hid in her room fridge that I kept for myself, but still...that wasn't serious.

The deal was that I should find a way to get closer to Melanie. Now, that part, I kinda sucked at. She's rude, like blatantly rude. I can't just walk up to her and start a conversation. Besides, we're not even sure if she doesn't dislike me as well (hate is a string word).

Just try and ask Penny. Confess about eavesdropping the other day. Give your reason. Say you were worried about her. Push her till she says something, even if it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Shut up, stupid subconscious.

Suit yourself. You blame someone of being secretive, you're just a hypocrite. I wouldn't blame you if you had tried the first option, which a normal person would've done. Just ask her.

Hmph!

Besides, Melanie may not tell you the whole truth. She dislikes Penny, she may say something that may not be true and may jeopardize the relationship you guys have. Think about it dummy.

True though. But Miles and Lily did mention some of these points yesterday, that's why they insisted that I became her friend. That may also spoil stuff, Penny will frown at at that idea. Hmm...I just need to have my breakfast then go to school. I'll discuss it with my besties.

My besties.

Darn. That sounded so nice.

"Morning Tom, Penny." Melanie wasn't here but Michael was.

Oh God.

"Yeah, sit Violet." Tom said and I did so. "Michael told me what happened yesterday. He's really sorry. He'd like to make up for it."

"No he's not. He..." I stopped when I felt Penny's hand cover mine.

"Violet." She said softly. "He's sorry."

"No, let me finish. He was so cold yesterday, he couldn't even apologize. That was so rude and wrong of him. So don't even make me look like I'm the rude one now. You should have seen the way he talked to me yesterday, and the other day at the park, and the way he glared at me during that dinner. So what's the apology for? Huh?"

"Everything." Michael said. That was surprising. "I mean it, I am sorry. I'll bring out time to take you phone shopping after your school today. I can also treat you to dinner if you don't mind."

What the hell is going on?

"Violet?" Penny called. "Answer him."

"That's not necessary." I said

"I insist." He pushed. I knew he would.

"Fine." I smirked. "Pick me up from school by three."

"Thank you for accepting my apology. I will take my leave now." He tapped Tom lightly on the back and nodded at Penny before leaving.

"We have to talk, when you get home." Penny said.

"Ok." I stared at my plate. After some time, I asked "Why?"

She dropped her fork. "It's not so important, it's about yesterday."

I told ya. You should've asked.

"Alright." I said and finished up my breakfast quickly.

Jake dropped me at school and once again, the ride was eerily silent. Before I stepped out of the car,I had to ask. "How did your date go?"
