"How are we going to find her," questioned Joao. Nighttime had crept in like a thief in a castle, the stars continued shining brightly, yet, Mrs Buvoir was nowhere to be found. Panic sunk in and out.
"We would know where she is, who to call and how to flippin' speak to everyone, had you not acted like you're some sorta Gift of the givers. But, noooooo!! Jelly Bear has to act like he's Richy Rich," argued Danika.
The people walking near them would stop and stare at them.
Different kinds of people, mothers carrying their babies on their backs, young boys that came back from selling at the markets and even men that came back from work in their oil-stained blue overalls.
Yet, they continued walking as soon as they heard them speaking English.
He stopped walking and stood on the busy sidewalk. "Oh, so it's my fault that somebody was too busy posting pictures on the 'Gram, flaunting our location? That's my fault, right," he asked angrily, raising his arms in defeat.
"Yes, it is your fault, all we could have done was switch off my phone and continue with life," Danika yelled.
"Yah, and let them find us," he asked.
"Well, either way they found us so what exactly was your plan Captain Pineapple, what, huh, what," she asked with her hands on her hips and her face tilted to the side, while, going in and out of his face like a chicken eating corn kernels.
"Girl, hit the step, or you gon' get slapped," he warned sternly. He stood still and rubbed his forehead slowly.
"Oh, you hit girls now. Well, go ahead, go right ahead," she said, as she took of her earrings and tied her hair.
"Is this what happens when the mice are left to play." A voice interrupted, them.
"Uncle Tommy," they said in unison.
"There's my two favorite rascals," he said. They both hugged him at either sides.
"Who else could rock your world like we do, I mean hello," Danika said.
"Let me hold your bag, I parked the car near Lé Croc Avenue," he said.
"You left your car alone without anyone taking care of it, in this busy city," asked Joao.
"Where else was I gonna park it? In my pocket Joao," he asked sarcastically.
"Couldn't you pay like a car guard or something," Joao asked.
Danika looked at Joao with a raised eyebrow. "You do know that South Africa is like the only country that has car guards, right," said Danika 'in a matter of fact' tone.
"Oh, thanks for letting me know Wikipedia," mumbled Joao.
"Uncle, where'd you put your..."*Beep Beep*
Joao dropped the duffle bag he was holding and put his hands on his head. The shock that slapped him at this moment was too much for one person. "When you said your car you were talking about this beautiful Blue Lightening," he said, as he walked around car looking at every angle his eyes could travel.
If humans could paint with eyes, trust me you would also need a mop to clean the floor because there would be too much drip."This...this is not just any car Uncle Tommy, this is a masterpiece bestowed to you by the Greek gods themselves. This right here is a metallic blue Lavente Maseratti, the 2019 model. Filled with brown leather and mahogany interior. . ." Marvelled Joao.
"Wanna take it for a spin," asked Uncle Tommy.
"Do I? Uncle Tommy this opportunity comes life, and when it does you better grab it by the horns, just like life," he proclaimed.
"Yah, too bad, it didn't come to you," commented Uncle Tommy. Danika laughed quietly; Uncle Tommy, did that, too, as he placed the luggage in the trunk with Joao.
"What? Come on it's not like I'll scratch it or anything," said Joao dismissively.
"That's right you won't scratch it, instead you'll crash it," he said.
"Buuuuurrrnn," cheered Danika in the back seat. Uncle Tommy gave her a high five when he got into the car. Joao folded his hands and listened to the boring Seven thirty news.
"This afternoon a woman was violently abducted at restaurant near Lé Croc Avenue in Kinshasa. Recent developments of a video tape. . ."
Joao increased the volume of the radio, leaving Uncle Tommy with a look of confusion on his face.
"Wow, Joao, I had no idea you were this..." said Uncle Tommy.
However, Joao cut him off quicker than lightning. "Shhh..."
"The kidnappers broadcasted a video on National TV. An audio of the video will be played":
Hello, pheasants, you are all wondering what exactly does this have to do with you. Well, you see if this maggot's family does not do as I wish within the next 24 hours, not only will she suffer but innocent lives will be lost, enough blood to make the Red Sea will be shed. IluDo will rise stronger than ever before.
And no one, absolutely, no one, will be safe. Your secrets, your data, it all lies with IluDo.
IluDo forever.
Joao turned down the volume as soon as the horrific speech was over. Both, Danika and Joao slouched back on their seats upon their hearing of the speech. What could they do? Their minds were all over the place. They had to play hero, while, they had time smaller than the grains of sand to save his mom.
"I know where they're keeping her," interjected Uncle Tommy.
"What do you mean you know where they're keeping her," asked Joao.
"I know," he repeated.
"Damn, man, could you stop being Maya Angelou for a second, and speak the f*** up," is what Danika would have said, yet, every African child knows better than to say that.
"Well, aren't you gonna tell us," asked Danika.
"I will," replied Uncle Tommy.
