And so began your desire for strength. Everyday was either an assassination or a reckless massacre, which didn't bother you in the least. You were also able to meet Eto again, who told you about Aogiri beforehand. She squeezed the life out of you when she saw you, hugging you as if she hadn't seen you in a 100 years.
Today you had no missions assigned, so you decided to visit Uta (and drop off that plush grey mouse you made 7 chapters ago). You haven't seen him in a while and because you've joined Aogiri, he might not be as close as the two of you were before. It was worth a try though. You might even drop by at Anteiku if you have spare time on your hands later on.
You pulled on a quick outfit and ate the ghoul flesh you scavenged off with yesterday. Not as nutritious as a fresh kill, but it was satisfactory. Kaneki was out on a kill-spree with Ayato, while Eto was in a bookstore signing books for her fans (THE SEN TAKATSUKI LIFESTYLE HAS BEEN REVEALED).
Although the change in daily activities was sudden, it was bearable.
Because Kaneki was in it with you, suffering the same.
You notified Banjou that you were going out to visit Uta and left. The sky was a colourless shade of grey, which suggested it was going to be a rainy day (which would lower your mood even more).
No one notified you of the CCG investigations taking place in the 20th ward...
One one of the streets you crossed, randomly selected people were to take an RC cell test by quinque-wielding investigators. As much as you tried to either take a different route or avoid it, the suspicion of the investigators grew, to your irritation. They approached you with stern expressions.
"Excuse me, ma'am, we would highly recommend that you take this test."
"I-I have a business meeting in 5 minutes. I need to hurry, or I'll receive a scolding from my manager."
"It will only take a minute or so."
Crap. Your lying wasn't enough.
They grabbed you forcefully by the shoulder, before you could run away.
A scanner was waved around you and from head to toe, you were scanned and checked. To your relief, your RC level was found to be slightly higher than the average human's, which was considered normal. It was lucky that you haven't been Binge-eating for a while.
"You are now permitted to leave. Thank you for co-operating with us."
Your tense shoulders relaxed as they turned away to scan the next person in their sights. That was close, really close. You made an effort to keep away from crowded streets and quickly made your way to the HySy Art Mask Studio.
"Uta? Are you there? UTAAAAA"
His head peeked out from the edge of a desk stacked with various masks.
"Heyyy (Y/n)."
You grinned at his casual attitude. He didn't seem to hate you for joining Aogiri... There was a possibility he didn't know about it, but you chose not to say anything related to the topic, just in case.
"I have a present for youuuu~" You sang, regaining that cheerful attitude you once had.
You pulled out the plush grey mouse from your bag and handed it to him, curious towards his reaction. He inspected it for a bit, impressed with your *ehem crappy* sewing ability.
"Not bad. It looks really cute. You can choose yourself a free mask if you want." He said in complete approval.
"YAY~ Thanks Uta!"
There were many masks, almost too many to count. You wandered around for a bit, before setting your eyes upon a mask suited to your taste and picked up. You brought it up to your face and placed it on. It fit perfectly, like it was made specifically for you.
You spun around on your heels and faced Uta with a grin on your face.
"I want this one!"
"YOUR WISH HAS BEEN FULFILLED."
Both you and Uta began to laugh, before you gave him a bear hug and left the shop.
The sky was gradually beginning to darken, to your distaste. You stared upwards for what felt like hours, until the deafening sound of lightning snapped you back to your senses. It was time to visit Anteiku.
Mild worry seemed to fog up your thoughts. Even if Uta hasn't brought up the fact that you moved to Aogiri, Anteiku might not be the same. Touka wasn't the type to forgive traitors and she might go against the idea of you visiting when you arrived.
You continued walking towards the small coffee shop in hesitant steps. The door was just begging for you to open it, but you were half-hearted about this. This could go wrong in an instant.
Your trembling hand reached for the door knob...
But it opened itself.
And revealed everyone who waited.
Everyone who waited patiently your return.
"(Y/n), we missed you."
