He has—
a black leather wallet
stuffed with receipts he doesn't
need, but, they spill out agreeably,
so he keeps them.
He has—
A stick of deodorant
and a half-ruined deck of cards that
he doesn't use anymore, but, nostalgia
so he keeps them.
He has—
a-buck-thirty-five in change,
a pair of headphones, a couple pens
that aren't as good as his favorite, but, useful
so he keeps them.
He has—
a leather journal, keys,
four hair-ties, a pair of sunglasses,
and those papers he won't get rid of.
So he keeps them.
He has—
all that, and a surface-pleasance,
and the knowledge that white paper
stains green against the interior of the bag.
But he keeps it.
He has—
to pretend elsewise—
his lunch, his red work shirt,
nothing else important—a lighter.
He keeps it.
He has—
a black leather wallet
stuffed with receipts for things that
he thinks that he needs, still in his bag anyway,
so he keeps them.
