A Date?

It had been three days since I went back to 'normal' life. I still hadn't had any luck with finding a job, but things were going alright. I spent most of my time familiarising myself with Forks, trying to get used to living with none of my memories.

I lay in bed, having the sweetest dream I could conjure.

I was walking through the forest with Carlisle, hugging his arm and laughing. We found a clearing and decided it was the perfect place for a picnic.

We sat together and enjoyed a bottle of champagne. The day quickly turned to dusk, and the conversation got sleepy.

"It's getting dark. I should be taking you home now," Carlisle smiled and stroked my cheek softly.

"I don't ever want this night to end."

Carlisle silently nodded in agreement, keeping his hand rested on my neck. He moved in closer to me, until our lips were almost touching. I closed my eyes, and...

My alarm blared, kicking me straight out of my fantasy.

I groaned, rolling over and checking my phone with bleary eyes.

My heart leapt as I saw a notification from Carlisle.

The text read:

"Still waiting for your call, have you been doing okay?"

I held my phone close to my chest, smile beaming for a minute or so before frantically typing out my reply, deleting it and rephrasing it until I finally settled;

"Sorry for keeping you waiting! Just been getting accustomed to normal life again."

Before long, Carlisle had sent his reply.

"How do you feel about getting lunch today? I get off work early today."

I instantly shot back an acceptance, probably too quickly, but I was excited! I'd been looking forward to seeing him again since we'd said goodbye outside my apartment.

The rest of my morning was spent getting ready. I threw together an outfit that I thought was cute, and checked my appearance over and over, wondering if Carlisle would agree with my judgement.

Lunch time finally arrived after what felt like hours. I left my apartment and rushed to the end of my road, where Carlisle waited in his Mercedes.

"Long time no see," He greeted me with his signature warm smile as I climbed into the passenger seat.

We caught up as he drove us to the diner. Conversation flowed so naturally with Carlisle, when we spoke it felt like we'd known each other for years, rather than just a few short weeks.

Before I knew it, we were at the diner. We got out of the car and headed inside, Carlisle holding the door open for me and making me blush like an idiot. I hoped he didn't notice.

We seated ourselves and waited for the waitress to take our orders.

"Get whatever you want, my treat," Carlisle pushed my menu closer to me.

Blush burned throughout my face, and I took my time deciding what to get.

When the waitress appeared at our table, Carlisle gave her my order, and requested only a black coffee for himself.

"Only a coffee for lunch?"

"I ate before I left work," Carlisle replied, pushing his menu to the side.

Why would he eat if he knew we would be getting lunch together? Maybe he just didn't feel like diner food today? Weird.

"Oh... Okay." I pushed my menu to the side also. "So, how come you have early leave today?"

"Honestly? I asked for a shorter shift, so I could see you again. I wanted to know you were doing okay."

The blush from earlier quickly crept back over my cheeks, and he definitely noticed this time.

"You look well, (y/n)." He rested his head on his hand, leaning forwards over the table. "Actually, you look amazing."

Before I had the chance to process what he just said, the waitress returned with my food, and poured Carlisle a cup of coffee. "Enjoy your date," she smiled before returning to the counter.

I stared down at my food, heart pounding so hard I feared it would burst.

"Date, huh?" Carlisle let out a small laugh. "How are you enjoying our date, (y/n)?"

I laughed, unable to meet his gaze.

"I'm having a good time."

This answer seemed to satisfy him, and he sipped his coffee.

I slowly ate my food, taking extra care not to drop or spill anything in front of Carlisle.

After I finished, we both had another coffee, and spoke until the sky was painted with a gorgeous sunset.

Carlisle put his arm around me as we walked back to his car, and despite how nervous I was, it felt... right?

The conversation kept going strong for the entire drive back to my apartment.

When we finally pulled up to my place, my mood immediately fell. I didn't want this day with Carlisle to end.

He left the car before me and opened my door, taking my hand and helping me up.

"Why don't you show me around a little bit before we part ways?"

On the inside I was jumping with joy.

"Sure!"

He accompanied me up to my front door, which was... wide open.

My heart sank and I started to panic.

I rushed into my apartment, and it was completely trashed.

Someone had broken in.
