7:45AM: AT BURAZA TOWN

[Name] wouldn't usually go anywhere before school, but her father was being a dick that morning. He had given not-so-subtle hints that he wanted her to just get out and not bother him, which was pure shit because she had done nothing to bother him. Nevertheless she'd gone out anyway.

Sometimes [Name] wondered what life would be like if her mother was still around. Would her father be as neglectful and unloving? She could easily be at home right now, lying in, even having breakfast in bed.

"Hey there!"
Quickly rubbing her eyes, [Name] turned around to see Taro. He was already in his uniform and was smiling brightly at her. However she noticed that Osana wasn't with him.

"Where's Osana?" she asked.
Taro answered, "Oh, I don't think she's awake yet. Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one here... would you mind joining me for..." he blushed a little, "...breakfast?"

"Not at all." [Name] replied, thinking nothing of it.
The two of them walked off to a random cafe - not the one where [Name] had met Ayano last night - and sat down after ordering [f/d].

"So..." Taro said, attempting to initiate conversation, "how are things? At home, I mean, or..."

What did he expect her to say? "Oh... er, well, everything's fine. How about you?" she asked in an attempt to steer the conversation away from herself.

"Oh, my family is pretty normal. My little sister can be really clingy sometimes though. Do you have brothers or sisters?"

[Name] shook her head. "Nope. Only child. It's really peaceful but also lonely."
"I see..."

Taro racked his brains for another conversation lead. He actually enjoyed talking to [Name]. She was ordinary, yes, but something about her was... refreshing. She was so much easier to talk to than the rather obnoxious Osana.

He was saved from this burden, however, when [Name] began to speak.
"So... how long have you known Osana?"

Osana? Why would [Name] want to know about her? Unbeknownst to him, [Name] was plotting to help out her bestie a little bit. After all, it was what a good friend would do. Right?

"Um, about ten years, maybe? We've always lived next door to each other, and we've always walked to school together..."

"Do you like her?"
"Like her?" Taro furrowed his eyebrows. "Well, of course I like her, I've known her for years."

[Name] mentally facepalmed. "No, Yamada, I meant like-like. In a romantic way."
"Romantic?" Taro turned a slight shade of pink. "W-Well, to be honest..." He looked down at his wrist, and suddenly exclaimed.

"Ah, look at the time! We're going to be late!"

[Name] checked her own watch. To her horror, she saw that it was 8:15AM. Fuck! How long had she and Taro been engrossed in conversation?
She got up quickly, then suddenly remembered something.

"Er... Taro!" Taro turned around.
"Could I follow you? I... don't know the way to school from here..." The girl's cheeks reddened with embarrassment.

"Alright then!" Without thinking, Taro lunged forward and grabbed [Name]'s arm. "Come on!"
"Wait, wha—" [Name] didn't get a chance to object as Taro literally dragged her across the town. Oh God.

It was some distance from Buraza Town to Akademi High, and both [Name] and Taro were five minutes late to class. Since [Name] had only been in Akademi two days, she got away with a warning, but Taro got a sharper scolding. [Name] made a mental note to apologise to him later at lunch for making him late.
