The One Who Could've Been

Mother Dearest

I quickly lost sight of Draco in a crowd of panicking students and faculty. I had to trust that he'd be safe in his family's manor. But, was he really safe around his father?
Anna's mother wasn't answering her calls. Last thing I wanted was to be seperated from her during all of this. I told her she would be safe with me and my family until she could get a hold of her mother.
We hurriedly parted ways with Cedric wishing him well as my father brought the flying car over. Anna and I rode our brooms up into the car and we flew away with my family.
I glanced over at Anna as she held her arm pain, grimacing. "Anna? What is it?" I furrowed my brows and set a hand on her shoulder. She shook her head, continuing to clutch her forearm. She groaned and pulled up her sleeves the dark mark on her arm boldly showing we jolted forward as my father stepped on the break, "out." He spoke sternly. I furrowed my brows looking over at him.

"Dad, she's staying." I spoke calmly but kept my voice stern as well. "Like hell she is, she has the dark mark. She's working with him!" He grabbed me and pulled me to the front away from Anna. She looked at us teary eyed, "I swear, i'm not working with him." Her voice cracked. "Get out!" My father raised his brow. She cleared her throat and nodded. The car landed back onto the ground. Anna was about to step out but I quickly stopped her as we heard a laugh that sent actual shivers up our spins.

I noticed Anna's breath hitch, "I killed Sirius Black! I killed Sirius Black!" The woman's voice taunted. I furrowed my brows and looked over at Anna who looked terrified. My father grabbed my shoulder pulling me out of the car then quickly stopped when he heard the laughter, "Hagrid!" Anna shouted and ran towards his hut as it caught fire. I pulled away from my father and followed behind her.

When I finally caught up to her I grabbed her arm yanking her back causing us both to fall back with a groan. I sat up and glared at her, "are you out of your mind?!" I whispered. She shook her head and stood up, "you're the one who's out of their bloody mind! I would've been fine I have this damn cursed mark, you don't they'll kill you if they see you." She spoke with the same tone as me.

I grabbed her arm and began dragging her back when a cloud of black smoke appeared in front of us followed by a woman's high pitched voice, "baby baby baby." She spoke as the cloud finally revealed her to me. My eyes widened as Anna pushed me behind her, the first time she's done that in a while, usually she hides behind me. "Bellatrix." She stuttered out, I glanced at Anna, she looked pale, her lips quivering and her hands shaking. She was afraid. Afraid of the woman in front of her.

Bellatrix laughed, "You mean mother sweetie!" She reached out to caress Anna's cheek but she was faster, wrapping her fingers around Bella's wrist and pushing her back. "The next time you try touching me, you won't have any hands." Anna's voice shook as she spoke, she gently pushed me back as I felt a pair of arms wrap around me, I immediately knew who it was, Draco.

"Let's get you out of here, love." He spoke as the three of us disappeared. Anna and I stumbled as we appeared back into the halls of Hogwarts, Draco caught me as Anna steadied herself, "Anna?" Our heads snapped in the direction of the voice, it was Cedric. She quickly ran to him and hugged him tightly as he did the same to her kissing her head.

I shifted awkwardly as Draco looked down at me. He bit his lip for a moment then released it and looked back at Cedric and Anna holding onto each other and making their way back to us. "Are you alright?" Anna asked Cedric repeatedly, causing him to chuckle, "I promise, I'm alright." He nodded.

"They're quite good together." Draco whispered in my ear, I looked up at him and nodded in agreement, he smiled and nudged my shoulder gently then wrapped his arm around them, "as are we." He winked. I felt my cheeks instantly heat up. I must look like a tomato right now.

He shook his head while smiling then looked over at Anna who was leaning against Cedric with his arm around her. He sighed, "I'm sorry it had to be you." He cleared his throat, we all looked at him confused. Anna shrugged slightly, "I'm sorry it had to be you too." He gave him a weak smile. Draco nodded and patted her shoulder sighing, "I heard Aunt Bellatrix's plan." Draco continued sadness taking over him.

"She's going to get inside your head." He looked over at Anna, "She's planning on using you against Potter, then killing you." He cleared his throat. I stood up straight, "Killing her? Killing her!" My voice raised, "the only person killing in this room is going to be me and it's going to be that bloody aunt of yours!" I glared and grabbed my wand heading to the door.

Draco chased after me and pulled me back to him as I collided with his chest. I gasped and looked up at him, he looked down at me giving me a small smile, "There's the fierce girl I met the first day of school." He stroked my cheek gently and kissed me.

It had been an hour since Draco kissed me, an hour and I could still feel the butterflies in my stomach. I nodded to myself and headed back to the others, Draco spotted me and smiled wrapping his arm around my shoulder the moment I got to him. I let out a breath, what does this mean? I asked myself, are we together or not? Is this some trick? Questions ran through my mind.

"Cedric promise me you won't get in the way." Anna's voice cut off the rest of the questions, "If you're in harm's way I'm not going to stand back and watch you get hurt!" He argued back making Anna shake her head, "I can't have you be hurt because of-" Anna was cut off by the sound of Harry's voice, she quickly shoved Draco and I out of the way and got hit by the spell Harry had originally casted for Draco.

She fell to the ground whimpering as Harry stood by and watched in shock of what he had just done. Draco stood up as Cedric and I kneeled alongside Anna. I looked over at Draco, my eyes widening, "Draco, no!" I spoke as he fired at Harry the both of them running off further into the bathroom. I ran a hand through my hair looking down at Anna in pain.

"You'll be alright, you hear me?" Cedric spoke and took out his wand casting a healing spell while stroking her cheek, "I got her, you go find Malfoy." Cedric nodded and I nodded back running in the direction of Harry and Draco.
