I sat on my couch. My stomach growing by the inch per week. It was only hours until the delivery It was 11pm. I wasn't in the mood for sleeping. In 2 hours I would have to head to the hospital again anyway. Jake came over to me and went to lie on the couch. He had a cup of tea for me in his hand.
"You should probably go get some sleep. Got a big evening ahead of you." he said.
"I can't sleep, and I won't. I feel like the baby is disturbed already.....knowing someone was there before them......" I said quietly.
"Well... Aren't you excited to know if "they" are a boy or a girl? Afterall I think we've done it this time. We finally did it, and to be honest........I hope it's a little girl...."
"And why is that? Normally I thought you would be one to want a little boy so you can teach them how to play football, or fish, or how to get girls. Why do you want a girl though?"
"So I'd have another beautiful you...and I've got to have a daddy's girl don't I? It would make me happy."
"I think we should go....." I finally said.
20 minute drive later........
"The baby is definitely ready to go." the doctor said as she checks the baby."The question is are you? Afterall, in your reports it said there was a difficulty with the first. It may be an emotional moment, you can have five minutes before we start if you would like....."
Jake looked at me with startled eyes, then at my stomach, then down at the floor, then at my eyes again.
"What's wrong Jake? I'm fine. I can do this, but if you want time I can give it to you...." I said.
He cleared his eyes and throat up and said lets do it..........
1 hour of labor and time........
The nurse walked in with a little pink blanket. I could see Jake already start to tear up. His wish came true. The nurse handed him the baby while she undid my IV's and tubes. Jake looked at her for a while then finally decided to say that she looked exactly like me.
"Everything went perfect. There weren't any problems with labor, and she is perfectly healthy. Congratulations" the nurse said.
I finally realized, it was Christmas Eve. The perfect baby for my Christmas gift.
