I watched Buddy finish his food as I looked out my window, trying to finish the drawing I had already started. Letting my pencil guide over the paper freely and smoothly making the picture look more and more like the backyard. The sun was starting to set and I noticed I had been working on this picture a good 2 hours but I didn't care.
Drawing was my break from people. Well everyone. Sure I had a couple friends, but I didn't talk to them much. I wouldn't be able to call them or anything since my dad won't give me a cell phone til I'm eighteen. Just a couple months more, Melody.
I felt Buddy come over to me, rubbing up against my arm. Her soft fur tickled a little causing me to giggle. I put down my sketchbook, starting to pet Buddy. "You're such a good boy," I smiled at him. He was so cuddly too.
I heard a knock on the door and jumped a little. "Melody?" my dad said from the other side of the door.
I looked at the door and quickly to the window. I opened it and Buddy walked out onto the small roof outside my window. He knew the drill.
"Yea, dad?" I asked and he'd opened the door.
"Dinners ready downstairs. Come down and eat," he said waiting for me. I gave him a quick okay and shut the window, making my way down. I walked into the kitchen to see Claire already making her plate.
"I got you a plate," she said and handed me and my dad one, giving him a loving look. I shook my head and started putting food on my plate. My dad had made steak with mash potatoes and corn. I quickly made my way to the table, followed by Claire then my dad.
"So, Peter?" Claire tried to start up a conversation.
"Yea?" My father asked stuffing food in his face.
"Melody got invited to a party tomorrow night and wanted to go, but she wanted to make sure you were fine with it."
I smiled at him a little, picking at my food. I knew parties weren't really my thing but I wanted to go just this once.
My dad thought about it, "I'm not sure about that Melody... You know how high school parties are."
"Dad. I'm not like those people. I know better than them. You know that," I said proudly.
He sighed, "what do you think, Claire?"
"I think its wonderful for her to go. She can talk to her friends before everyone goes off on their own. Plus it'll prove how responsible she is," Claire smiled at me and I gave her a small smile back.
"Okay, then you can go, but...I want you back by 12."
I nodded, "I might be back before then depending on if I'm having fun or not."
He smiled, "that's perfectly fine."
Claire got excited, "I'll drop her off tomorrow. Do you think you could get a ride home?"
I thought about it. I might be able to but if not I'll walk, "Yea probably."
"Okay! Great!" Claire exclaimed. She was always like that. So cheery. Yet I barely know anything about her. Well I do just her past life. Like before she met us. She doesn't say anything. She keeps it to herself her teenage years. She was so young too compared to my father. 23...she's 23 and my father is 38. To me that's a big difference.
But whatever. The rest of the dinner involved us eating and having small conversations like every average dinner.
