Warning: Wings of Fire spoilers

Sometimes I wonder why Peril has so many fans and why Fatespeaker has so many haters. To me, Peril is actually... extremely overrated :/ and Fatespeaker is underrated almost all the time.

Which I find very weird because they're similar in a way

Peril is cool and has an interesting history, but she bothers me a lot... everyone knows she has a giant crush on Clay but I highly doubt it's true love. It's definitely is not the least bit healthy. It's almost like she only cares about his companionship and not him... she pretty much didn't care at all about Clay's feelings about being a "monster" (sorta like: Clay: I almost killed my best friends when I hatched ;n; Peril: Omg you're just like me! How great is that? :D)

And she told Scarlet about his escape plan just so he could stay longer, even though doing so could... you know... kill him in the arena???

And she tried to rescue Scarlet. Like guuurl did you not learn anything from the first book?? I was tempted to throw my book at the wall right there, but I would have ruined it and I spent time and effort to get the cleanest and neatest copy at the book store XD

And then there's Fatespeaker, another female character who has an obvious crush on a male protagonist who has been captured. I'm still very shocked that not as many people ship Starspeaker, because that's a genuine and very healthy ship right there.

I think it might have been the Sunnyflight shipping goggles that ruined it v.v

But seriously, Fatespeaker is very dedicated to the well being of Starflight. She's always been there, and not only because she wants his companionship. She came to his aid when the other false dragonets tried to kill him, she helped him when he almost got lost flying over the ocean, healed him when he got hurt, let him stay behind instead of having to do work, taught him how to bounce back from his blindness, promised to read scrolls to him, heck, it doesn't matter if Starflight had a crush on Sunny, Fatespeaker is the real deal.

Yet people tend to overlook this ship, they're like "it's a love at first sight" (no, Starflight was obsessed with Sunny when they first met and their relationship built up gradually) "he only loves Sunny" (so tell me why he's questioning his crush and why he acts embarrassed and flustered around Fatespeaker) "Fatespeaker is too annoying" (shut up)

So how is Fatespeaker, a dedicated, caring, and fun character worse than Peril?

I dunno.

Maybe instead of jumping to the conclusion that Clay and Peril are meant for each other because he's fireproof and stuff, we should actually take a moment to think about what their relationship really is.

Maybe instead of hating on Fatespeaker because of Sunnyflight, we should take off the bias-glasses and face the facts.
