Background: Rose was born and raised in Gwangju, South Korea. After listening to SHINee as a young girl, she decided she wanted to be an idol. When she was 17, she traveled to New York to learn more about dancing in a dance academy, which is also where she learn how to speak English. At the age of 18, she came back to South Korea. Rose debated whether or not she should become an idol, because she was worried people wouldn't like her, but her older sister convinced her to follow her dream. She then began her life as a trainee.
