"You sure you wanna stay home with Chase? You don't have to Patton." Seán stood at the door, his egos, Thomas, and other sides already making their way into town to explore.
"I know Seán, but I wanna help him get better as fast as possible." Patton smiled. "I feel bad that he's sick, I don't want him to get lonely."
"If you're sure...thanks Patton." Seán pat him on the shoulder before catching up with the others, leaving Patton and Chase alone in the house.
Patton glanced at the time to see it was around noon, going into the kitchen to make some soup and tea for Chase.
Patton hummed softly to himself as he cooked, genuinely worried about Chase since he hadn't seen him leave his room at all during the week he and the others had been there and had no idea how sick Chase was.
"Poor kiddo's probably got a fever or something." Patton murmured thoughtfully as he put the soup and tea on a tray and took it to Chase's room, knocking on the door gently. "Hey kiddo, you awake in there?"
"Go away." Chase mumbled, his voice muffled by the pillow his face was buried in and the door.
Patton's smile didn't falter, his voice cheery as ever. "C'mon kiddo, I made soup and tea for you!"
There was silence in Chase's room for a moment before Patton heard quiet shuffling, Chase cracking the door open slightly to look at Patton.
Chase's hair was unkept, his baby blue eyes rimmed red and bloodshot from crying and lack of sleep. "You don't need to take care of me..." Chase rubbed his eyes, leaning against the doorframe.
"I know, I want to! I know you're sick, so I want to help you get better." Patton offered him the tray.
Chase looked at the tray, then back up at Patton as he took it. "Thanks I guess...you wanna come in?" He opened the door wider before going to his bed and sitting, kicking stuff on the floor out of the way to make a path to the bed.
Patton was a little surprised since he had been bringing Chase food for awhile, but had never been allowed in. "Sure!" Patton followed him, sitting by Chase on the bed. "If you don't mind me asking, what's bugging you? You got a fever or something? I can get you medicine." He offered, eager to help.
Chase laughed softly, the sound hollow. "Seán lied, I'm not sick. I just...it's complicated." He picked a half empty whiskey bottle up off of the floor and was about to take a drink from it before Patton gently grabbed his wrist to stop him, the father figure's chocolate brown eyes filled with concern. "What's wrong Chase? Why aren't you taking care of yourself?"
Chase sighed softly and looked away from Patton. "My wife Stacy left me, she took the kids...I used to have my own apartment in LA, but I had to be evicted since I couldn't keep paying for it. My YouTube channel Bro Average is dead...I wanna be dead with it...instead, I'm back here since I don't know what else to do. I'm fucking worthless-"
"Don't you dare say that!" Patton gasped, gently grabbing Chase's chin to turn it towards him so Chase was forced to look at him.
"What, was it because I cursed?" Chase joked with a weak smile, Patton shaking his head with a stern look. "Chase...never believe you are worthless. You are enough."
Chase rolled his eyes with a light scoff. "Yeah right, that's why my wife left and took the kids..."
"Chase...what happened wasn't your fault. Sometimes good people have to go through horrible things." Patton replied gently. "Listen, even if you think you're not good enough for anyone, know that you're good enough for me. You're doing your best, don't give up."
Chase's eyes welled with tears, shaking lightly as he set the bottle down and hugged Patton tight with his face buried in the father figure's chest. "T-thank you..."
Patton hummed softly and rocked Chase gently, rubbing his back. "Of course Chase."
They stayed like that for a moment before Chase pulled away and blew on his soup, eating a spoonful. "This is really good soup, thank you."
"Thanks, I'm glad you think it's soup-er." Patton giggled, Chase nearly choking as he laughed.
"Do you know what the favourite soup of a ghost is?" Chase asked once he was able to breathe.
"No, what?" Patton shook his head, Chase smirking faintly. "They like scream of broccoli."
They both laughed, swapping soup puns as Chase ate his soup and drank his tea.
Once Chase was finished, Patton took the tray with the dishes on them and stood. "I'll get these cleaned up." He started to walk out before Chase's voice stopped him.
"Hey...thank you Patton, really." Chase smiled his first genuine smile in months, Patton smiling in return and nodding before leaving the room.
Chase laid down to take a nap, glancing at the whiskey bottle sitting on the floor for a moment before dumping its contents out his window and storing the empty bottle under his bed. "I am enough..." He laid back down and closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep as he pictured Patton's smile in his mind and heard his laugh echo in his ears.
