i called out to fire , fumbled with the grate agonisingly slowly, cutting my fingers in the process, and successfully acted as a trip stop for fire, who seemed to think it was funny. i brushed spider webs aside with my fingertips and took out a small silver hairpin..
Before you ask, no i do not use hairpins, they are far to fiddly. However, i have found they do come in handy for picking locks, or in this case, undoing air vents.
Feeling proud of myself, i triumphantly waved it in the air, promptly poking and elbow, of course which was not mine.
an annoyed "Ow!" came from somewhere to my left and i hurriedly got to business, fiddling with the screws holding the grate to the wall.
when i got it loose, i whispered to fire "follow me"
i crept into the small tunnel that connected us to the outside world and started moving forward slowly. far away, i could see a dim light, moving closer. i literally ran the rest of the way(as much as you can in a tunnel anyway)
peeking my head outside, i saw that it was all clear and signaled for fire to come out...
/Fire POV/
Hannah looked around nervously.
"Hey relax" i reassured her. then turned around to see.. five or six men in black uniforms barring our way.
i looked frantically around, my eyes darting around for an escape route until Hannah destroyed my line of thinking.
"Can we escape now please??😢" she asked sweetly..
a few minutes later, we were being bundled up, and carried through the long, winding corridors that never seemed to end and in a thouroughly worse position than 10 minutes ago..
