I hope you are enjoying my WangXian story. I want to warn you, though, this has been the most tearful chapter I've written. As I was writing the final paragraphs, "Sadness" from the tv series soundtrack started playing and I couldn't see my screen anymore. I know the emotions I was feeling while writing this chapter and I hope I was able to convey Wei Ying's emotions to you with my words. I wanted you to feel a strong connection to him and what he was going through at this time. Please let me know if I was successful, leave a comment at the end or just a simple vote will do. A sincere thank you to everyone who reads this!

The first thing Wei Ying noticed as he approached was how many rabbits were hopping around the forest floor. He couldn't count them all but he knew there were more than what was normal for wild rabbits. With each fuzzy tail, his hope grew greater. As he got closer, a strange sound reached his ears, one he was not expecting to hear. So, he moved around to the back of the clearing to get a closer look.
He suddenly stopped in his tracks, his one foot still held in the air, waiting for the next step. What the......?? His eyes opened wide and his jaw dropped almost hitting his chest.
There was HIS Lan Zhan. Chopping wood! At least, he was pretty sure it was his Lan Zhan. His mind was still trying to process what he was seeing, uncertainty crawling over him like worms under his skin. Yet his heart told him this was the man he had been searching for all this time.
Lan Zhan was indeed chopping firewood. He was shirtless and sweating under the hot sun, his skin glistening with every tiny movement. Each swing of the axe caused his strong muscles to flex and Wei Wuxian's heart fluttered like a teenage girl's. Every ripple under his pale skin sent shivers down Wei Ying's spine and his breathing became louder in his ears. Wei Ying stared, unblinking, unable to take his eyes off the scene before him.
Lan Zhan's hair was still long but the strands around his face were shorter, framing his perfect features. He wore no elaborate Gusu headpiece or long, flowing white robes. He wasn't even wearing the Lan headband that always adorned his forehead. Instead, his clothes were plain and worn and his hair was pulled back into a ponytail. A ponytail tied with a red ribbon. Wei Ying's red ribbon!
Wei Ying's smile spread across his face and he let out a sigh of relief. He wanted to run to Lan Zhan but something stopped him. He wanted to see more of this Lan Zhan. It intrigued him more than anything else ever had and so he stayed hidden, enjoying the sight before him.
As Wei Ying's eyes hungrily gazed at Lan Zhan's well-sculpted body, his eyes came to rest on the whip marks that were etched into Wangji's back and his smile evaporated. Those horrid marks would never fade, no matter how much Wei Ying wanted to smooth them away.
"Is that why he's here? Is he trying to forget all his pain?' Wei Ying wondered. He wouldn't blame him. There were many days Wei Ying wished that he could make Lan Zhan forget all the horrible things he had suffered through because of him. Wei Ying was beginning to realize that his wish may have come true.
Just as he was about the leave the shadows, Wei Ying heard a voice calling out. A female voice. He squatted down, not wanting to be seen yet. As he watched, a young woman with beautiful dark hair and bronze skin walked around the side of house, carrying a basket and waving to Lan Zhan. Lan Zhan raised his head and wiped the sweat from his brow, his golden eyes looking into the woods in Wei Ying's direction before moving to look at the girl.
