Just as I walked into school I could tell something was wrong with Reese. We've been best friends for almost all our lives. Which I think is enough to know when she isn't acting her normal self. I asked her what was wrong but she didn't give me any straight answers like; "it's no big deal" or "don't worry about it" so I decided to back off.
But when I walked over to my bus stop to find across the street and crying Reese I knew obviously something was up.
I walked over and she tried to make it seem like nothing had been happening but it was very hard to do since she only saw me seconds before I was there.
I sat next to her and asked again "what's wrong, Reese?" I said in a calm yet concerned tone.
"I told—you. I'm—fine" she choked out between sobs.
I put an arm around her and pulled her into a tight hug. She made no attempt to get out of it so we stayed there for a minute.
When I pulled away I looked her in the eyes and said "Reese, you know you can tell me anything. It's not a bother. I'd love to help if I can"
With that she broke out into sobs. She grabbed my waist and I put my arms slowly around her neck. I could feel her tears falling onto my shoulder where her head sat.
I whispered reassuring words. Normal words. Words anyone is capable of saying and most have probably said. "It's ok it's ok. Shh it's gonna be ok" I said softly. Even though they were such common words, it seemed as if they really helped her. She thanked me, taking a short pause before telling me about her parents fight. I understood exactly what she meant. Her parents were always arguing. Whenever I slept over you could hear them quietly arguing downstairs. Who knows what it would be like without me there. They wouldn't hold back. And from what I heard, it gets pretty nasty.
She told me about all the horrible things she overheard and how her mom had gotten really pissed and stormed out. She hasn't been at Reese's house in a few days and it seemed like reality just hit her like a train.
I pulled away after she finished and stood up quietly. She looked up at me confused until I reached out my hand. She looked at it for a second before putting her own in mine.
As soon as I took Reese's hand I felt a sharp pain but I imagined it was her squeezing it. She had been going through a lot so I tried not so show it hurt me.
We walked for a little while before finding our selves in front of a bench a little while away from my house. We sat down and talked. We talked about everything from that day how she was, how my English teacher gave me a random quiz and, because he's such an idiot, let us convince him we didn't have one cause he never mentioned it. (Even though he totally did and we're just extremely persuasive)
She laughed at that and that's when I knew she was feeling better, so again I asked "are you alright?" She wiped her eyes one last time before smiling, taking my hand, and saying yes.
Again I felt a warm tingle when our hands met. It's didn't hurt as much as before but it caught both of our attentions. I looked down to see a black mark covering the back of both our hands.
"Umm. Amanda?"
"Whoa."
I knew what was going through her head. It was going through mine as well:
We're soulmates

CasualePretty much what the title says. I explain in the first chapter. My post schedule is now whenever I remember the day and when I actually have a story idea. Haha I'm sorry but you can't rush mediocrity.
