Author’s Note: What a mess huh? I feel horrible for these characters. They’ve all got serious issues that need to be dealt with. Human- Gabrielle Aplin.

“So judging by the look on your face,” he had a washed down British accent that could send shivers between both a man and woman’s legs, just not mine, “he told you everything.”

I gave him a stiff nod unsure what to say. I observed him from the tops of my eyes while I pretended not to. The scruff in his face showed he’d been traveling for a couple of days give or take. Then there was those eye’s, hypnotizing, but not in the same way Michael’s got to me.

Speaking of Michael, he already had to run off leaving me alone with his beta. It would look worse if we showed up together. Though I still couldn’t make sense of that.

“So I’m supposed to play the role as your boyfriend.” He didn’t even blink.

“You’re direct.” I had to admit, it caught me off guard.

He shrugged lightly with a shake of his head. “It’s not like I have a problem kissing a guy. I owe Michael.”

“Oh yeah? How so?”

He didn’t answer, his eyes met mine unblinking, a stare down. Like Alpha like beta I supposed.

“Look, I’ll be real honest with you,” I said, “I don’t agree with this.”

“I assure you, it’s for the best.” He wasn’t going to stand down was he?

“I think I see why he picked you now.” I openly challenged.

“He picked me because I was dying. I didn’t want to die. I wasn’t ready. I almost did.”

Stumped I shifted my weight back and forth on heels. The movement kept my nerves smooth. I didn’t particularly want to like the guy, even though that was childish of me. Now I was back at square one, trying to keep myself from running after… Michael. The very insides of my being ached from the distance.

I tried changing subjects but letting him know I still didn’t agree with this. “So have you been watching me too?”

“No.” Gosh his British accent was much stronger now. I wondered what his story was, out of curiosity. “I’ve never met you until now.”

I crossed my hands behind my head letting my fingers knot together. “Well that’s a relief.”

Deep down, I was worried. Worried more than I’d let on because something inside me filled me with a sense of dread. Not only was the fiancé a second generation of purebloods dead, but she was murdered. From the little information that Cody gave us, she was found a few minutes ago in her trailer near the campsite with her head completely severed, execution style. That told me one thing: there was a serious grudge at work here.
