In my last chapter, I concluded Laxus's backstory, well, some of it. More will eventually be revealed. Now, we're starting on the OCs backstory. Enjoy!

Laxus Dreyar

I pace through the streets, removing my grey and yellow mask and sighing. Could I really do this? Was Grandpa right about my ability to lead the business? It was more than I deserved, after what happened two years ago.

For my friends' sakes, I will try my best.

"What are you doing up this late? You should be at home!" my physics teacher declares.

I turn my head to the teacher, smiling slightly. "I apologize, Sensei. I only intended to finish my homework in a more conducive setting. Unfortunately, afterward, I accidentally got distracted attempting to test a theory. I believe I have found a foolproof test this time, but it would appear that I need to study this more at a later date. Once more, I apologize for taking up your time. I will take my leave now." I fear I may have 'freaked him out', as the more modern term is, with my speech patterns, so I decide to bow slightly and leave. Family relations being the exception, I looked and more-or-less acted like your average neighbor girl, with, as it has been described to me, a bit of a creepy genius twist. Many people found it easy to open up to me in more relaxed settings, but my stilted, formal manner of speech brought many people to the conclusion that I thought myself above them. This was actually far from the case as I envied their ability to speak in concise sentences and to speak what was on their mind in a manner more befitting a teenage girl of fourteen.

What I would not give to be more like my brothers! I think to myself. While growing up to be fourteen has improved my appearance to the point that I wonder whether all men are zombies, most boys think twice when they hear a girl who frequently speaks far more eloquently and elaborately, especially when they do not even know what 'eloquent' and 'elaborate' mean. They also balk when said girl can also easily defeat them in hand-to-hand combat as well as with most weapons. My brothers, on the other hand, fit the role of 'popular male' perfectly, as all three act as well as compete athletically for a living, and, as such, enjoy fame and wealth to the extreme. That was one bonus to my wish, but another was that I would be closer to them, since they were all in the adult world, rivaling each other. Sometimes it seems like the only possible way to get close to them is to join in athletics or acting.

I reach my house, a place in which I dwell alone, and enter. I take out a simple microwave dinner and stick it inside. Some days, I make an entire meal for myself, but I was still contemplating how to test that theory. I had written down part of the possible test, using the scientific method, but I still needed a way to access certain materials that you cannot find in schools. Even with extensive research and consideration, it becomes clear that I would need considerable funds to test the theory. I suppose I could borrow that money from my long-absent brothers, however, I fully intend to function on my own.

Speaking of my brothers, perhaps I will pay them a visit. The youngest of my older brothers, Kuso, is constantly challenging the oldest, Kish, and Kieran, the middle of the three, wants desperately to prove himself to the others. I suppose this is mainly because Kieran has only truly been part of the family since a year ago when we discovered that Kieran was our long lost brother. Well, technically, Kish's long lost brother and mine and Kuso's long lost half brother.

When you start envying soap opera characters for their simplistic lives, you know something is wrong.
