Day One, The Afternoon
The car was quiet as we started to drive north. News had already gotten out about the outbreak so we had to take back road almost everywhere as the highway was jammed. The street was quiet with not many people around this far out if the city. The radio broadcasts were still going on. We listened as they told the world the standard 'stay in your homes and keep away from people infected speech.
"So TJ what do you think a week or a month to get to class 5" I asked him she laughing this might be the only time we will get to in a while.
"Hmm I don't think it will be a week but I'll place my combat knife on it to be 2 weeks."
"Sounds good and I guess I'll place mine on it also."
We continued down the dirt road and came to a small country gas station. There was a guy working the pumps as we pulled up. He walked over with a slight limp his read collared uniform. The lights were dim and we couldn't really see his face until he reached the van.
"You need a fill up." He asked me as I rolled down the window.
"Yea also do you have any gas cans we can fill up also."
"I got one." He looked confused as I nodded for him to get it.
I realized that it was better to get more gas now then to be looking for it later. He came back with the gas can filled it up along with the truck. We paid him on a credit card seeing how it was more then 150 dollars, damn fucking van costs a lot. Luckily we didn't have to much to worry about that way though. No one will be paying for anything soon enough.
We pulled back out onto the road continuing down. The smell of the gas filled up the van slowly so TJ got up and sealed the cap properly then closed the door between our section and the back section. As we pulled up toward Barrie the smell had gone away completely so TJ tossed me a cigarette and lit one for himself. Even though we had a thing of gas not even 3 feet behind is it really didn't matter. I mean what would be worst at this point, getting blown up by a gas explosion or being eating alive. Yea I figured blowing up would be worth the risk.
We enjoyed our smokes and slowly pulled into the outskirts of Barrie and stopped by a TSC story. It looked like it just closed which was perfect. I flipped on the radio and listen to the news for a few minutes. It sounds like the virus was starting to spreed it hasn't made it this far north yet but it wasn't to far behind. It also told us the most of the police divisions were busy trying to prevent he outbreak from spreading and that was perfect for us. We jumped out of the van walked around to the back doors and grabbed some bolt cutters and a crowbar. Anything that would be in our way wouldn't be anymore.
We came up to the doors and used the crowbar to break the glass, to our surprise no alarm went off. We stepped in and I knew that if that alarm didn't go off doesn't mean any of the others wouldn't. We went to the weapons cage first cutting the lock with the bolt cutters. Opening a duffel back we through all the ammo, Grabbed the two crossbows and all the bolts we could get. Then we grab the few rifles in the gun cabinet, two 22. rifles, and a 12 gauge shotgun. Not all that much to work with but still better then nothing. We went around the store a few quick times grabbing a small mig welder some masks a few of the solar power systems they had and left.
As we were loading up the van we noticed something that just didn't seem right. There hadn't been one car that drove by the whole time we loaded. Jumping in the van we heard a loud moan coming from down the street. It slowly grew louder and sounded like there was a lot more then just one. TJ grabbed the 22. and loaded it magazine I got in and turned on the car.
TJ got in just as a hoard started coming up over the hill. The decrepit body's with arms ripped off, body's with holes in them, necks ripped open. Most disgusting things you will ever see. They clamoured up toward the hill dragging there legs not noticing that we were there. Well they didn't until TJ fired a shot hitting one square in the head. Then they started running right for us. I hit the gas and flew at them for the parking lot exit.
