In the deadlands.

The green light from the dead sky cast an odd glow on Adira's armor clad body. There was no day or night in these lands, no sun, moon nor stars. Just a plain green sky. Whatever happened here long ago must have been truly frightening to change nature itself.

She is seated on top of a hill that provided a good vantage point. Her eyes asses the land around her as her thoughts wandered around a specific person. A name rang through her body, filling her soul with deep longing. Walter.

She needed her Walter.

Her hand subconsciously moved to clutch a blue gemstone necklace that hanged on her neck, over her armor. It was a gift given to her, one that she cherished with the entirety of her being. She wondered how her husband was doing. Was he alright? Of course he was. She hoped that he had gotten her note.

'The fool is probably looking for the fastest way to get here', she thought with a slight chuckle. Against her wishes, Clementine had gone to personally tell Walter that Tor was back. She remeberd the look on the pale mage's face when she told her that she knew him. It was only for a moment, but still....

"My lady," a voice came from behind her, pulling her away from her thoughts. Instantly recognizing the rough voice, she did not around, but nodded slightly to inform him that she was listening.

"The scouts have come back. They say that most of the spirits and beasts are heading towards the mountain over there," he said, pointing at a big mass of black rock in the horizon.

"Good. At least we won't have to deal with constant attacks," she said as she stood up and turned.

Kai stood attention in front of her. His face, hair and armor was caked with dirt, having run out of enough water to clean himself. The water in the rivers were corrosive, and the mages they brought were not powerful enough to purify large amounts of it. He looked at her with pure devotion in his eyes, as he has for so many years.

"My lady, what are we going to do?" he asked.

"For now.... We stay here and wait," Adira answered, after a minute of thinking. right now they couldn't do anything, even if they wanted to. Her knights were strong but the mages were beyond weak. It was a miracle that they were still alive. She knew that Walter was coming, and they would be easier to find if they stayed in one place.

"Why are we waiting in this hellhole?" came a voice behind Kai. Adira groaned inwardly when she saw the round frame of a particular mage come closer.

"Because we are expecting reinforcements, Zenoth," Adira answered, her voice calm and emotionless. She did not like this mage, who was weak in terms of magick but strong in terms of delegation. He was a middle aged man but he had the air of a spoiled rich brat. Adira was quite surprised when he said that she wanted to go with her to the dead lands. The man child's ears perked up when he heard the word reinforcements.

"Who is coming?  Mercenaries? I doubt it is the magistrenium, seeing  that the kingdom thinks we're dead," He asked, his tone curious.

"The person who killed Tor," she answered, her right eye twitching. She just wanted to be left alone with her thoughts.

"Well he was weak if the beast came back to life. We don't need such weaklings here,my dear. My holy magick will be enough," he said smugly. Adira grit her teeth,  holding down the urge to kill the bastard.

"The man who killed Tor was the reaper," she said quietly, but enough for the pudgy mage to hear. She smiled when she saw the blood drain from his face.

At times like this, she enjoyed his reputation.

Suddenly, there was a bright flash above them as a paper and a sword appeared just above Adira's head. She expertly caught both, her heart swelling when she recognized her sword. She strapped her sword, opened the folded piece of parchment and read through it, before slipping it inside her armor, right next to her heart.

"The letter was from him. He will be here by evening," she said as she breezed past the chubby man, heading to her tent.

"W-wait!" he managed to call out. However, it was too late. Adira had already entered her tent. She sat down and fished out the letter once more, her face split in two with a wide grin.

"You never do disappoint," She said as she admired the gentle sloping of his words.

She could not wait for evening to come.
