Thomas's business card sat in a drawer of Genevieve's nightstand like a bad omen. She had been avoiding it religiously, and at some point considered throwing it away.

But now, she was thankful that she hadn't.

Genevieve eyed the number she had dialed in through the keypad of her phone. After making sure it matched the one on the card, she pressed the green button. Her heart sped up with every ring that resounded.

Upon Samuel's departure from her house, an idea came to her mind. Even though she felt relieved after telling him about Lily, the part where it could take up to four days to interrogate her nagged Genevieve. Time was of essence right now. She knew that she should leave it for Samuel to handle, but in the end, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

That's officer Genevieve for you. Even in suspension, she was still on duty.

"Hello?"

"Oh, hello Mr. Thomas."

She gulped down the bile that had risen in her throat, and her hand tightened its grip on the device. The negative emotions made a comeback after hearing his voice, so much so that she felt like cutting the call before it even began.

"I hope everything is alright dear."

"Yes it is, thank you. I just wanted to know if you're still good on your promise."

A moment of silence followed from his side. It was so silent, that Genevieve could hear her pulse beat vividly in her ears.

"Of course. I meant it when I said that I will be here for you if you need anything."

She closed her eyes shut and clenched her jaw. There was still time. Even now, she could end the call and not land herself into deeper trouble. Genevieve was aware that she was playing with fire right now, but this was the only way she could reach Lily and extract answers from the witch herself. She was essentially chasing after Shadow's stooge, through Shadow himself.

"I need you to do something for me."

His line went quiet once again, but it didn't drag out for as long as the previous one did. It seemed more that Thomas was thinking it over.

"Tell you what, come by my place in an hour or two. I'll message you my address, officer."

"Okay, thank you very much. I'll see you in a bit."

"Bye."

A sharp exhale left her when she pushed on the red button to end the call, and her shaky hand ran through her hair a couple of times. Above all, her main concern was how she'll stand in the same room as Thomas and not claw his eyes out.

Genevieve was pulled away from her moment of recollection when the door before her swung open. It revealed a well dressed mayor who stepped aside to let her enter the residence. A smile of hospitality rested on his lips, but she knew better than to be deceived by his friendliness.
