Bellatrix's words echoed through Draco's head as he wandered out of the Forbidden Forest. Draco Malfoy is in love with a Mudblood. "In love? Pshhh..." he said to himself. He was certain that he had feelings for Hermione, but it was Astoria who he had smelled in the Amortentia. How could he possibly be in love with Hermione Granger?

Malfoy dwelled on this thought well into the evening. It was around nightfall when he heard a knock at the common room door. He took a quick sweep of the room to make sure no one noticed before stepping outside to see Hermione standing there. "Granger? What are you doing here?" Draco was mildly surprised but relieved that she had come to visit. "Well, the Yule Ball is tomorrow and I was wondering if we would be going together?" Hermione eagerly questioned. Draco paused and thought about Astoria for a moment. Though he was very attracted towards her, he wasn't sure about how bringing an apple on a date to the Yule Ball would affect his reputation. "Of course we're going together," he grinned. Hermione squeaked and gave him a quick peck on the lips before running off. "Can't wait," Malfoy profusely blushed as he yelled to Hermione, who was already halfway down the hallway. She whipped around to face him. "Me neither."

Draco headed up to his dormitory and flung himself onto his bed. All he could think about was Hermione. "Hey Malfoy, who are you taking to the Yule Ball?" Goyle interrupted his train of thought. "Hermione," Draco answered. "Hermione? The mudblood? How did she even make it to The Elite?" Goyle scoffed. Draco's pale face reddened as he turned to Goyle. "Don't call her a mudblood," he barked. "I'll call her whatever I want. I tell you, your taste in women is terrible. Look at the two Elites remaining: a mudblood and an apple!" Goyle burst out in laughter. "That's it," Draco said, grabbing his wand. "Avada Ke-" before he could finish his spell, Crabbe busted through the door, stuffing his face with chocolate frogs. "Uh... hey mates," Crabbe said nervously. He was much too frightened to ask questions. Draco drew his gaze back to Goyle who had nearly peed himself out of fear. "I'll let you off the hook this time, Goyle. Both of you keep quiet about this," Malfoy ordered, trying to control his outrage. Crabbe and Goyle both nodded quickly and stiffly made their way to their beds. Falling asleep did not come easy that night.

When Draco woke up the next morning, both Crabbe and Goyle were nowhere to be found, which was a great relief. He couldn't stand the thought of seeing either of them at the moment. All he wanted to focus on was the Yule Ball, which began in a few hours.
