Whimsical music filled the air as Draco led Hermione to the dance floor. In honour of The Selection, the pair had the first dance. They both giggled as they pushed through the crowd and situated themselves in the middle of the room. All eyes were on them. Draco placed a hand against Hermione's back and the other in her own hand. He spun and dipped her several times before bringing her in close. He planted a soft kiss on her forehead before she rested her head against his chest. It felt like they were the only two people in the world. Nobody else, just Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger. Never in a million years would anyone expect the two to be linked romantically, but there they were. The moment was abruptly interrupted when the sweet music was replaced with a much more fast-paced tune.
"And if I had a strange conversation with a lady in the street
Telling me to move my tired feet
If you could be anywhere, then where would you be?"
"That voice sounds awfully familiar," Draco said. "Yeah, it sure does," Hermione agreed. They both shrugged it off and found an open table to sit at. "I wonder how Dobby and Filch are doing," Hermione thought aloud, resting her chin on her hands. "Well, there's Filch over there," Malfoy pointed to the absurd Squib. "That's strange, I thought he was bringing Mrs. Norris," Hermione responded, confused. Mrs. Norris was nowhere near Filch; in fact, nothing was near Filch except for a sandwich that he was clearly infatuated with. "Filch is cheating on Dobby with a sandwich!" Draco exclaimed. He knew that Argus and Dobby wouldn't last long, but this was not the way he thought it would end. "I can't believe this," Hermione said. "We must tell Dobby at once." Draco nodded in agreement and they both stood to leave. As soon as they opened the doors, they heard that same cry that echoed through the astronomy tower a few nights ago. "Dobby," Draco and Hermione said in unison and ran towards the sound. "Dobby, we have to tell you something," Hermione started. "Dobby already knows," the elf sobbed. "Argus fell in love with his sandwich and forgot about Dobby," he went on. "I'm so sorry," Draco patted Dobby on the shoulder. "Dobby will be OK. Not all relationships are meant to be," the elf sniffled. Draco and Hermione looked at each other as they both made the same realization. "This wasn't meant to be," they both blurted. "I'm in love with Ron," Hermione said solemnly. "And I'm in love with Astoria the Apple!" Draco cried. They pulled each other in for a friendly hug and smiled faintly. They knew that even if they didn't love each other romantically, they would always be great friends. "Ron looks miserable in that hideous outfit of his," Draco laughed. "I think it would be best if you went to cheer him up," "Only if you go confess to Astoria," Hermione challenged. "Deal," Malfoy said, holding out his hand. Hermione shook it and they rushed to find their true loves.
