Chapter 5: New Friends?

Benny then snapped me back to reality and said

"Ok Steph you can be start as batter ok"

I smiled and said"yeah ok"

He handed me the bat and I started walking to my position .

I got to my position then Kenny said
"Steph you ready?"

I then said"Yup"

He threw the ball then I hit it as hard as I could so then I started running but then I stopped at 2nd base because everyone was gathering around the ball which fell in the middle of the field.

I walked over to them and said"What's the m-"

Before I could finish my sentence I saw what the were looking at,I broke the ball everyone was looking at me in shock.

I then giggled and said"Opps"

They all started laughing and after that we became good friends.We had been playing together for a few days then one day we were playing and Ham hit the ball over the fence and everyone was getting mad then they started throwing their gloves at him.

I was confused but I started walking towards the fence and then I started to climb it but as soon as I did the boys came running to me and pulled me off the fence then Squints said

"holy crap you could have been killed"

Then yeah-yeah said after that"Yeah-Yeah truly what are you doing"

I then said"Well I just thought I could go get the ball"

Benny looked at me and said"You can't there's a beast over there"

I looked at him confused but then said"what do you mean there's a beast"

Then Benny puts his hand on my shoulder,I felt butterflies when he did that but then he says

"go over to the fence quietly and just listen"

I try to talk but he was just talking over me and said"no just go"

I started walking to the fence slowly and then I got to the fence I stood there for a good five seconds but then on the other side of the fence I heard a deep terrifying growl,I shot back from the fence as soon as I heard it walking backwards shaking leave I was tripping over my feet but I caught myself then turned around terrified and then said

"what is that thing"

All the boys looked at each other and then all at once said"Campout"

I was very confused But then Benny says"come to the camp out 8 PM today just meet us back here"

I said bye to everyone then started walking home on the way there I saw Phillips and his friend Phillips then stops me and says

"where were you"

I rolled my eyes and responded with" none of your business"

He then says"you better not be hanging out with those losers"

I look at him with anger in my face and say"they are not losers Phillips they are my friends"

Him and his friends rolled his eyes and rode on their bikes away.I got home and started gathering stuff for the campout,after I was finished I waited till it was time to go so I just sat on my bed drawing.It was 7:45 so I started leaving,I didn't know were Phillips was I'm pretty sure he's at Leo's house(Phillips friend)I was getting closer to the sandlot but then I heard talking so I just peeked over the side of the big fence and saw Phillips talking to the group of boys I couldn't really hear what they were saying but I waited till Phillips left then I started walking towards them they saw me then Benny smiled and said

"Steph come on"

I smiled softly and walked behind him.he went up the ladder and I went up with him.
