School ended and I still had time before the drinking party. I was supposed to meet Tanizaki-kun outside the bar at 7.30pm and then go on with him. I had an hour to get ready and travel there.
I figured that I wouldn't have enough time if I didn't hurry now.
I opened my wardrobe, flinging the door open with unnecessary extravagance. I glanced around, eye darting through the streaks of white and black. I shoved my hands between the hung up shirts and sweaters and pants and jeans and flipped through them, one by one. As I ran through them, I picked out a black turtleneck with long sleeves as my top. Having gone through half of my wardrobe by then, I started panicking. Then, I saw the most beautiful pair of wide-legged pants hanging out of the cupboard and immediately yanked it out. This was going to be a great outfit. I grabbed my white chunky sneakers and pulled my outfit on, glancing once in the mirror and feeling extremely satisfied with my look.
People won't be able to see if I stained or spilled anything on myself too, I thought.
Then, I remembered that I hadn't yet told Ryū about going out to drink. I took a post-it pad and a pen, wrote Ryū a note and stuck it on the fridge, telling him that I would be out for the night.
By the time I reached the bar, Tanizaki-kun was already there, looking out for me. I waved enthusiastically at him and raked my eyes over his outfit. He was looking pretty neat today in a casual white button-up and red slacks.
"You look nice," I commented.
Tanizaki-kun smiled and looked at my outfit, in turn, "Thanks. You're looking pretty snazzy yourself."
I giggled and motioned into the bar.
"Shall we?" I asked.
"We shall!" Tanizaki-kun smiled and opened the door for me.
It was already pretty crowded inside, with students in our cohort and seniors mingling with each other, raising their glasses and chugging it like it was nothing. Some people were already passed out, lying on empty seats next to them, sleeping peacefully. It was only seven.
I laughed a little.
"Atsushi!" A familiar voice called out.
"Yosano-senpai!" I called excitedly.
She motioned for me to come over to her and patted the empty seat next to her. I sat down gratefully, glad to be with someone whom I already knew.
"Here," she pushed a drink closer to me, "Loosen up."
I smiled and held the drink in both my hands. She looked at me expectantly and that's when I realised I was surrounded by other people as well, people who looked like seniors. It was daunting.
"U-Uh... Hello," I stammered nervously.
I looked at everyone around me, they all looked entranced with me. I blushed.
"He's cute," one of them said.
It was a male senior with black hair the same shade as Ryū's and bright green eyes that glowed like a cats'.
I blushed harder. He was hot.
"Ranpo. You're scaring the poor thing," Yosano-senpai scolded, "But I agree one hundred percent with you."
My eyes widened, completely taken off guard. I looked at Yosano-senpai's expression and realised that she was drunk. Her eyes were glazed over and there were pink tints on her cheeks. I assumed it wasn't makeup because I hadn't seen any on her before.
Suddenly, Yosano-senpai yanked me over to her.
"Have you *hic* SEEN this little cinnamon roll? He's the cutest little BABIE I have ever seen *hic* and no, I'm not sorry, Kōyō, Atsushi is just too cute! Kōyō, I love you and all but he's just so adorable- I-" Yosano trailed off and leaned on another senpai with red hair and bangs that covered her left eye.
