Lavinia de' Medici

Chapter two

"Jacopo Pazzi believes that Venice was responsible." Lorenzo speaks

Just as I walk into the room. I approach them to insert myself.

"He'll vote for war unless we can prove otherwise." He finishes

"A war that would bleed this Republic dry." Giuliano pipes in

"Listen to me. You are safe now, but whoever tried to kill you today, could do so again." Mother pleads

"Which is why we need to determine who was behind the attack." Lorenzo replies

"Don't worry, mother.-" Giuliano starts

"-We'll be careful." I finish

Lorenzo gives me a look. I think he finally understands that I'm serious about this.

Giuliano kisses mother on the head and grabs my hand walking out. Sandro follows closely behind us.

Just as we reach past the door Giuliano turns to me.

"Sister, are you sure you want to be involved in all this? You would be a great asset, but you'd be in danger." he explains

"Giuliano, they attacked me too. I need to grow up some time. Besides I'll get to see more of my favorite brothers!" I exclaim

He just smiles and looks at me.

Giuliano and I have always been close. He was only a little older than me. I followed not long behind him. We always just understood each other. Implicitly. A look and we know how each other felt. I understand his eyes like no other.

Mother always used to call me his little shadow. I'd follow him to the end of the earth.

All he does is kiss my hand goodnight and walks off, leaving me with a wink.

I take time to reach my bedroom. Looking at the moonlight through each window I pass. Grabbing the knob to my room I push and take two steps inside. Taking my hair down sighing in the process.

If I was gonna be involved, there is no half in. I need to be focused and invested.

The knocking at my door broke me from my thoughts

"Come in?" I ask

Mother then walks through the door. Graceful and poised. She sits on my bed.

"Darling, today, you were so stupidly brave. I understand you wish to prove yourself, but is this the way you want to do it? You could always make a successful marriage." She starts

"I don't wish to be known for a marriage like most girls. I want to be more impressive than that. If I did marry it would be for love. I hope you realize that." I say with my head held high

"Good girl." Is all she says with a quick smile and a peck on my forehead

Walking out the room I stop her once more.
