A brief history. Before the 1960's Toyota was in the car making business and made great and reliable cars. When the 60's came Toyota's first pickup the 1964 Toyota Stout which is the predecessor to the Toyota Hilux was a hit in the NA Market. When the Hilux came out it was considered a "Compact Pickup". The truck was one of Toyota's first trucks made for the American market the previous truck was the Stout. The Hilux was brought to the NA Market in 1969. Enough with the history now for the specs.
Engine:
- For the Global Market not the NA Market they had 2 engine options
1.5L 2R I4 (68-71) - 74hp and 86lb-ft of torque
1.6L 12R I4 (71-72) - 79hp and 91lb-ft of torque
- For the NA Market they had 3 engine options
1.9L 3R I4 (69) - 85hp and 105lb-ft of torque
1.9L 8R SOHC I4 (70-72) - 97hp and 113lb-ft of torque
2.0L 18R SOHC I4 (72) - 108hp and 112lb-ft of torqueThe pickup came with only one transmission for all the trucks and that was the 4-speed L40 Manual Transmission.
