After Toyota pulled the Hilux out of the US/Canadian market they did minor updates but nothing to big. It still looked like the 5th gen but with more engine options and two redesigned transmissions. This is the last generation of Hilux that was built in Japan. They had 4 Gas/Petrol engines and 6 Diesel engines options.

2.7L 3RZ-FE DOHC I4 (97-04) - 150hp and 177lb-ft of torque
3.4L 5VZ-FE DOHC V6 (97-04) - 190hp and 220lb-ft of torque
Diesel
2.4L 2L-T I4 (98-01) - 90hp and 139lb-ft of torque (UK only)
2.5L 2KD-FTV DOHC I4 - 101hp and 190lb-ft of torque
2.8L 3L I4 (97-04) - 88hp and 137lb-ft of torque
3.0L 5L I4 (98-99) - 90hp and 141lb-ft of torque
3.0L 1KZ-TE SOHC I4 (01-02) - 123hp and 232lb-ft of torque
3.0L 1KD-FTV I4 (02-04) - 125hp and 232lb-ft of torque
