you had just woken up from your second nap of the drive, vaguely aware of how your white t-shirt had slipped down your shoulders as you slept.

spencer had been driving for much longer than the three hours to charleston he had promised. by now it was at least 11. the two of you had stopped for dinner somewhere along the way and spencer had insisted on paying even though you owed him for all of the coffee he buys you.

"spence, it's late and you've been driving for a while, let's stop at a hotel for the night," you suggested groggily rubbing your eyes.

he looked over at you for a second. you couldn't see his eyes but you were sure he stared a little longer than he normally did. it was definitely the t-shirt. you made a point of not adjusting the sleeves and letting them slip further down your shoulders.

"yeah, ok. i'll stop in the next town and we can get some sleep," spencer said, his voice a little lower than it usually was, adding to your growing curiosity.

"ok," you said, shrinking into your seat slightly and sighing to yourself.

you stared at spencer's hands while he drove, your mind wandering. you'd felt the way he had grabbed your thigh before and you couldn't help but think about what might happen if he had kept his hand there, or moved it higher.

"y/n," spencer's voice interrupted your thoughts,

"hm?" you murmured.

"you're staring," he remarked, smirking slightly.

"i am not." you turned your head away from him and crossed your arms across your chest.

"you turned your head and crossed your arms, defensive measures. come on, you're a profiler ace" spencer laughed lightly.

since the first time spencer lost a poker game to you, he'd called you ace. he said it reminded him that he never stops learning from you. however, most of the time he used the nickname it was because you did something stupid. it made you smile though.

"ok, so what, i was staring." you rolled your eyes at him.

"hey, it's only fair, i was doing the same thing, except you were sleeping when i was staring," spencer laughed at your horrified expression before groaning when you punched him in the arm (a/n: you're welcome em)

"creep," you muttered, smiling.

"well someone is in a mood," spencer remarked softly, flinching when you raised your fist again.

"just get me to a bed reid," you sighed before closing your eyes again.

you woke up to spencer shaking you awake, his hand lingering on your cheek.

"hey ace," spencer said softly.

"mmm no, i wanna sleep," you mumbled as you leaned into his hand. you felt spencer freeze when you did.

"we need to go - i need to get you into bed, ok?" spencer coughed as he stuttered. you giggled at his flustered demeanor.

"mkay, but i'm sleeping once we get inside," you said, knowing he would make you wash your face and brush your teeth anyway.
