after checking out of the hotel room you had stayed at for the night, you realized that spencer had driven you all the way to charleston, south carolina. it had been so late when the two of you had checked in, and you had been so tired that you hadn't noticed where you were.
the two of you had stopped in town at a diner for breakfast before getting back on the road. this time you slipped the waitress your credit card before the meal, ensuring spencer wouldn't be able to pay for the meal.
you hadn't missed the way the waitress had looked you up and down when the two of you walked in. the waitress, who's name was katherine, had gone pink when you visibly checked her out right back. you had smirked at her reaction.
(a/n: oh shit i just made us a top)
"so boy genius, how much longer to quantico?" you asked, shoving pancakes into your mouth. god, you were hungry.
"something around 7 hours and 30 minutes, but almost 13 hours if you choose to take the scenic route, but considering we'd be trying to get home, driving almost double that doesn't make sense. it's incredibly counterintuitive to drive the equivalent of two trips when you only have to drive one." spencer rattled off before sipping his sugar coffee.
you couldn't really tease him about his sugar habits, because you drank your coffee the same way. but that didn't stop the rest of the bau from teasing the two of you as you dumped cups of sugar into your coffee on cases.
"spence, it's about the journey, not the destination," you explained, laughing at his confusion.
"but why would you make the journey longer if the entire point is to get home?" he asked quizzically, his eyes scanning your face.
"you know for a genius, you're pretty dumb sometimes," you smiled, reaching across the table to ruffle his hair, laughing again at his confused expression.
the two of you had only brought enough clothes for the one case in miami, so spencer was wearing a light blue button-down and a red tie, which seemed way too long to be normal. his button-down was wrinkled which was absolutely adorable.
you had fished out a green v neck sweater and a pair of light wash jeans, silently thanking yourself for packing non-work clothes in your go-bag.
"so, considering we still have about two days left on our "vacation", tell me about this scenic route." you smiled, sipping your coffee.
"ok so, we'd be stopping in 4 places on the coast," spencer continued, explaining the cities you were going to stop and eat at, and that you would be spending the night in morehead city, north carolina to split up the drive.
for someone who didn't understand why anyone would take the long way, he definitely seemed to want to.
"ok, pretty boy, whatever you say. i'm in charge of the music though," you said, knowing if you let him control the radio stations you'd be listening to classical music for 7 hours straight.
the waitress, katherine, came by to take your dishes and you noticed her staring at you. more specifically, down your sweater which was very clearly low cut, but you really didn't think anyone would notice.
