Con 1: When she doesn't know you exist
Quinn's point of view
"I haven't seen your sister in a while" I said casually to Zoe who was laying on my bed.
"Quinn, seriously? We just fucked and you're asking about my sister?" She said laughing, before throwing a pillow at me. The sudden impact distracted me and my opponent on the screen managed to knock me out.
"You suck at the game, I don't understand how you manage to win in real life" she said, suddenly getting up and picking up her clothes.
"Are you leaving already?"
"Yeah, I have an 8 am lecture and you do too. I need some beauty sleep"
"Not gonna attend, my body doesn't function until after noon" I said. The lectures for this class weren't compulsory, they were practically begging us not to attend.
"Are you sure? My sister and some of the hospital staff will be giving a demonstration on first aid or something" She said, smiling...baiting me.
"Really?" I asked, trying not to sound interested and she just rolled her eyes.
"Yes really, and I need a ride in the morning too"
"Okay, fine, maybe I'll come – because you need a ride and the weather forecast says it should be raining tomorrow"
"Uh huh. Let's go. I don't have my spare key and I need to get home before my sister leaves for the night shift.
"Right behind you" I said.
Zoe and I were great friends, we understood each other. None of us wanted a relationship and we knew what we were doing. I don't like using the term 'friends with benefits' because I feel like our friendship was much more than that. We weren't exclusively seeing each other and our friendship was much more than the sex. The problem with most girls is that they didn't understand that and they always wanted more. It was just sex, Zoe and I both knew that and it only happened once in a while when we were both really bored or horny.
"Aren't you coming in?" Zoe asked, distracting me from my thoughts.
"Nah, I'll see you tomorrow morning" I was actually quite beat and the thought of waking up early was depressing me.
I waited for her to get inside because it was dark outside. When I was about to leave, I saw Paige – Zoe's sister stepping out. She almost fell after tripping on the steps by the door, and even though no one was around she looked really embarrassed and continued walking with her head down, adjusting her glasses every couple of seconds. She was so fucking cute.
Paige's point of view
I hated school kids, whether it was high school kids or university students. I don't know why I always got picked when the hospital was asked for some volunteers to do demonstrations for kids classes. What was the point of asking for volunteers if they were just going to pick whoever they wanted.
"It'll be fine, doesn't your little sister go here?" Judy, one of the other nurses asked as we were walking in the university hallway.
"Yeah, she's a second year student in her second semester" I mumbled.
"You're great at what you do don't worry" Judy said, rolling her eyes.
It's not that I wasn't confident about my skills as a nurse, it's just that I suffered from a lot of anxiety especially when it involved talking in front of a lot of people, especially students. Most of the time they were unnecessarily mean and made un-funny jokes at my expense. At least it was only a 30 minute presentation.
I saw my little sister sitting in the front and smiled briefly at her. Judy was right. I felt so much better after seeing a familiar face.
Surprisingly, our presentation went by without any problems, minus my occasional stuttering – of which I didn't even get to talk that much. The only problem now was that it was raining heavily outside and I had no way of getting home.
"Paige that was great!" Zoe said, rushing towards me with one of her friends. I couldn't quite remember his name but I'd seen him a couple of times.
"Are you done for the day? Shouldn't you be in another class?" I asked.
She just rolled her eyes and said, "No mom, we're done. Do you need a ride back to the hospital? You could totally come with us" Zoe asked, gesturing to her friend who looked bored or just standing there.
"That would be great if your friend doesn't mind, but home – not the hospital" I didn't want to put the poor guy at an inconvenience.
"It's fine" Zoe said, answering for the guy. I wonder how she did that. She always had people eating out of the palm of her hand. I wish I could be like that.
"Do you have an umbrella?" The guy asked when Zoe started sprinting ahead of us towards his car, I'm assuming.
"Uh, no, it's fine" I said. But he'd already took out his leather jacket and draped it over my head. He grabbed my hand and started running with me towards the car.
It was a little bit weird for me at first because I just don't like having unwarranted physical contact with people but his hand felt warm and gave me a nice feeling so I didn't pull away.
