She lets no sound escape her vocal cords. Her memories of the horrible experiences tied with the ship flourish in her mind. Memories tied with sadness, loneliness, heartache. Anger.

A vow for revenge will, at last, be fulfilled. Her head emerges through the water and as the first vibrations are composed in her throat, she catches sight of him. Her breath hitches.

In the midst of her hesitation, he has turned from the ship's helm towards her and locks his gaze with her's. She is met with wide eyes as he gazes upon her, believing her to be dead. And, nonetheless, a human.

Yet, there she is; alive and nonhuman. His eyes must be deceiving. Life at sea, the waves, the sun and the constantly unsteady ground beneath him has deluded his mind an driven him to hallucinations.

The old captain had suffered an equal fate, believing a crocodile to hunt him for the rest of his days. His visions had plunged him into madness, the constant fear of sharp teeth biting into his body and he finally met his demise as he had jumped into the cold waters.

During the years, the captain had taken a liking to the now young man- he had known of the affair between him and his niece. He appraised the young mans commitment to the pirate life, as he had let the captain despise of his lover without protest.

A horrible mistake. He turned bitter, much to the captains liking, and Matthew could no longer recognise his friend. Though he knew his friend had suffered emotionally after the incident with the girl. Rum, bloodshed and treasure his only comfort.

The sun reflects itself in the teardrops that flow gently down the soft curve of his face as he feels the guilt takes a firm grip on the young man, forming a knot in his stomach. His gaze is yet to escape hers. Caught together.

He blinks once. A flicker of turquoise. "Wait!"

Gone.
