Virgil's POV
-
Why did I agree to this?
It's now Tuesday. The Tuesday where I am supposed to attend Patton and Roman's mixed practice. What even is a mixed practice? Should I be worried? I don't- I don't even know. I wish Logan were here. Stupid flower shop job.
The school day went on as normal. Logan, Patton, Roman, and I hung around the tree. The occasional friends passing by. I'm on good terms with Leo and Kenny now. Kenny's loud, but it's endearing. Roman also has this other friend named Terrence. He's pretty cool too.
At this current moment, I am trudging up the stairs to the football field with Patton and Roman. I held my skateboard in my left arm and my right hand-held Roman's left. Patton led the way occasionally sneaking glances at us behind him and giggling.
Patton wore an Adidas jacket over a simple light blue shirt with black Adidas track pants. Roman sported a red hoodie paired with regular football pants. I dressed warm, for some stupid reason. I had a white long sleeve shirt under a purple hoodie with ripped jeans on.
It is so hot.
How do these athletic people do all this stuff in the Florida heat? I wipe some sweat off my forehead as we get to the football field.
A lot of their teammates were already down at the field. It was around 40 people. A group filled with majority females were on the left, while the group with most males were in the right. We followed Roman to a small shady spot on the bleachers
"What time does practice start?" I asked them as they plopped their bags down.
"Whenever Josiah gets here." Roman answered. I sat on the bleachers next to their stuff. Grateful for the shade provided by this tree.
At the same time Patton said, "Whenever Bri gets here."
"Bri?" I questioned the unfamiliar name.
"Cheer captain." Roman responded as he dug through this duffel bag. "Jo's chick." He finished.
I nodded in understanding. Roman took off his hoodie revealing he had nothing under it on. What. As he changed into a simple white t-shirt that read 'WHS Athletics' he shot me a smirk.
"What?" He questioned my red face.
"Nothing. It's just hot." I looked away. Trying to hide any sign of me being flustered.
Patton giggled as he put a headband on to keep his hair out of his face. "What's hot? The weather or Roman?" Out of character, Patton teased.
I gasped as my cheeks burned redder. "Patton!" All he did was shrug at me as Roman chuckled.
"Don't coaches usually conduct practice?" I asked a lot of questions, but that's because I've never done anything like this. Sports, I mean.
"Usually! Today's practice is for varsity players only. We can hold our own." Patton happily replied to all the questions I answered.
Roman didn't seem to be annoyed either. Which comforted me. "Yeah. JV players need more help." He said with a snort.
"Roman!" Patton scolded. "Don't say that, they work about as hard as we do!" He said with crossed arms.
Roman waved a hand to tell Patton he got it. I don't think he did. We talked a little more since their captains weren't here yet. A few minutes later we heard the song "3 Musketeers" by ppcocaine playing.
