Roman's POV

22:06

I got up, pushing my opponents off me. All I could remember seeing was Leo looking at me, his mouth shaping the words, "We won." I couldn't hear over the deafening cheers of the stadium. We won? WE WON! I looked around desperately for Virgil. Suddenly, a few of my teammates grabbed the water cooler and poured Gatorade all over me. I laughed with them, my doubts before the game completely disappearing.

"VIRGIL!"

"VIRGIL, WAIT!"

And now they're back again. I look towards Logan and Patton who were calling after Virgil. I see him running towards the bathrooms. No one would be there, it's the end of the game, it's the perfect spot to be alone. I try to slip away from my team without them noticing. Emphasis on the word "try."

"Prince, where you going?" Kenny said running up to me.

"Gotta piss." I cracked a smile. He nodded and went off to Leo and Terrence. That was easy. I am constantly bombarded by people telling me how great I was at that last play. Normally, my ego would go through the roof, but I have something, or someone, else to think about.

I pushed my way through the crowd that made their way up to the gate of the stadium, holding my helmet down to my side so no one would really see. Down the steps and into the bathroom. All the stalls were open, except for one. I hear sniffles coming from the inside. On the bottom I could see a purple backpack standing against the door of the stall. I knock on it with my helmet.

"Virgil?" I say softly. The sniffling stops. "Hey, come on, I know you're in here." I put my hand up next to the stall, wanting to rest my forehead on it so I could hear him, but decide against it. "Come on out, please, Virgil, these restrooms are nasty." I declared with a face.

I heard a dry chuckle. "Go away." Okay, we're making progress. I walked to the door to the restrooms, probably making him think I was leaving, and shut it. The restrooms lock from the inside, so I locked us in.

"Never." I stated as I walked back. I sat on the sink in front of the stall he was in. "Talk to me. Do you not want to go on the date? You know you don't have to if you don't want to." I questioned. I could hear him sigh.

"No...yes? No. I don't know. I do, but I don't know. It's stupid." By the end, his words were muffled. Probably by him putting his head into his hands.

I tried to put on the gentlest voice I could. "Hey, nothing about you is stupid." That clearly struck a chord.

"Something about me must be stupid if I thought YOU, Roman Prince, would want to go out with a loser like me." My eyes widened. I opened my mouth to say something, but he continued, "I bet you didn't even know I existed before you saw me today."

I sighed. "A Midsummer's Night's Dream. 2016." Virgil got quiet. "Mamma Mia and Clue, 2017. Beauty and the Beast, 2018. Newsies, Mary Poppins, and Our Town, 2019. Into the Woods, 2020." I paused to breathe. "Do you recognize the similarities?"

"All the performances I've been a tech for. Since Intermediate." Virgil shakily answered.

"I've noticed you ever since your first show in 2016. The sassy tech who was always cursing us out under his breath." I chuckled. "I never talked to you until now because I thought you'd just shut me out. I was just the weird theatre kid. Now that I'm the 'star quarterback,'" I made a mocking voice at those words. "I knew I had something to impress you with. You would never have thought to make the deal if I were just me."

"Where are you?" Virgil questioned.

"Sitting on the sink in front of you."

"Come here."

I hopped off the sink and walked in front of Virgil's door. Once he saw that I was standing next to the stall door, he picked up his backpack and flung open the stall door. I was pulled in and before I knew it, his arms were wrapped around my torso, hugging me. As soon as I realized it, I started blushing like crazy. But I soon snapped out of it and hugged him back.

"So... does that mean I get that date?" I jokingly asked.

Virgil pulled away and I felt cold because of the warmth of his body leaving mine. I immediately turned warmer when he laughed at what I asked. He pushed me out of the stall and started walking to the bathroom door, I followed behind him.

"Of course you do, Princey." His mouth turned up into a smirk. "How could I leave you hanging when you so desperately wanted me since middle school?" My eyes widened and I walked faster to hug him from behind.

"Stopp. I told you that in secrecy." Virgil looked at me and saw me pouting. He rolled his eyes.

"Get off, you baby." They were mean words, but Virgil somehow managed to say them affectionately. He took my arms off him but kept one of my hands in his. We walked out of the bathroom holding each other's hands. We made our way to our cars.

Virgil broke the silence. "By the way, why do you smell like punch?"
