Virgil's POV
Okay, walking sucks. I was still a bit shaken up about the ~incident~ from last chapter. I say last chapter as if I'm in a book. How stupid would that be? Ah. Roman being there made it almost all better for me, though. His arm wrapped around my shoulders as we came up by a tree, Logan and Patton sitting under it.
Logan sat against the tree in the shade, a book about space resting in his hands. He wore a black polo with blue jeans and black vans. He flipped a page as Patton talked with him. Patton was laid on his back in the sun. The signature gray cat sweater he wore was tied around his neck and he paired it with khaki jeans a graphic tee. His backpack and his crossed arms cushioned his head. His eyes were shut lightly, and his mouth held a closed smile.
"I'm just saying. Unicorns are real." Patton told Logan as he continued to flip through his book.
Logan, as monotone as ever said, "Sure. In another alternate universe. There's no possible evidence that unicorns exist in our current timeline."
"Then how would they come up with the idea of unicorns?"
"Monodon Monoceros."
Patton gave out a loud giggle and sat up. "What even is that?"
Roman and I stepped up, deciding this was a good place in the conversation to walk in.
"Scientific name for a narwhal." I stated as I placed my bag next to Logan in the shade. No way am I sitting in the sun.
Roman walked over to sit next to Patton, who opted to sit in a crisscross applesauce position. "And how do you know that?" He questioned me.
"Living with Logan is a learning experience." I bluntly said with a straight face. I glanced over Logan who had a ghost of a smirk over his face.
"Hey, Voman!" Patton greets us happily.
Logan quirked an eyebrow. "What's Voman?"
Pat giggled with a hand over his mouth. "Virgil and Roman's ship name, of course!"
"Sounds like vomit." I commented as I brought out my phone from my pocket. I observed it and saw that it earned a few more cracks in the screen. "Fuck." I held it to the light to see how much exactly there were.
"Oh no! What happened?" Patton questioned worriedly. Me and Roman glanced at each other.
Roman talked about what happened last chapter. Ugh, again with the chapter mentions! Virgil, stop it. I dozed off until I felt a firm hand plant on my shoulder.
"You good, fahm?" It was Logan who stared at me with a dead straight face. I couldn't help but let out a snort as I held a hand over my mouth. "What? What did I do?" And with that, I lost my composure.
The scene changed to looking at Patton and Roman in disarray while they both laughed to themselves. We were content with just enjoying each other's company, then a few people walked up.
"Bro!" A voice yelled at us drawing out the 'o'. It was a guy around Roman's height with tan skin and curly hair. He wore a yellow NASA hoodie. Okay, so when are the ugly people going to show up? Does everyone have to be hot?
He ran up to us as Roman stood up. Roman laughed as he saw the dude come up to our spot.
"Hey hey! Sup, dude!" Roman replied.
They met and did that weird man hug thing where they grab hands and like, slap each other's backs. What even is that?
"Aye, Patton's here too!" The new dude pointed out. Patton let out an enthusiastic wave. "Since when do y'all hang out here?" Despite saying the word 'yall' his accent seemed a bit different than us Floridians.
Kinda whack that these guys speak so, what's the word, 'bro' like. "Ah, just hanging out with my boyfriend and friends. Probably going to chill here a lot more often." Roman replied sheepishly with a hand behind his neck. "Oh, guys! This is Josiah. Senior. He's captain of the football team. We're pretty good friends." Roman introduced the dude.
"Mans really just friend zoned me." Josiah rolled his eyes. "Nah, this dude's practically my brother. Y'know, being co-captain and everything." He wrapped his arm around Roman's shoulders and ruffled his hair as he talked. "I'm assuming you're the boyfriend." He asked as he looked at me and wiggled his eyebrows.
I chuckled lightly. "As of a day ago, yes I am." Somehow, his aura was comforting. It was a lot different than Leo and Kenny's. "Can I ask a question?" I asked Josiah. "How do you know Patton?" Eh, curiosity and plot development.
"Oh, didn't you know? He's co-captain of the cheer team. The cheer team and the football team are close." Josiah answered and his face turned a red hue. Wonder why.
"Pfft. Look at this dude blushing." Roman teased with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "It's because his giiirrrllffrriieenndd is cheer captain." He continued to poke fun at Josiah. Their friendship was cute, not gonna lie.
Patton decided to chip in to the conversation. "Hey! We have a mixed practice tomorrow after school. You should come, Virgil and Logan." His grin was wider than the Cheshire Cat's. I looked at Roman and Josiah and they were both nodding vigorously.
"I have work." Logan stated barely looking up from his book. Fun fact, he works at a flower shop, but that's another topic for another day.
I checked my phone for dramatic effect. "I'm..." I say as I pretend to scroll through my calendar. Please tell me there's something going on. I'm not sure if I want to be around major amount of testosterone and the cheer team. I let out a sigh. "...totally free." I guess I'll have time with Roman.
Roman and Josiah pumped their fists in the air and let out a loud "woohoo!" God, these dorks. We were comfortably banting until the lunch bell rang.
"RING, RING, RING!"
Logan, Patton, and I hopped up at the sound. That lunch felt super long for some reason.
"Hey, Ro, we have next period together, yeah?" Josiah asked Roman who put a finger on his chin to think.
"Yeah, yeah. Heneghan's in E-Building." Roman concluded. A lightbulb seemed to pop up in his head as he looked at me. "We can drop off Virge! His class is downstairs."
Oh no. "Uh, um, kinda whack if two of the best football players came to drop me off..." I nervously suggested.
"Nonsense. Only one of the best football players are going to drop you off." Josiah commented.
Roman opened his mouth, "Aw, thank yo-"
"And that's me."
"Fuck you, man."
Josiah looped an arm around my shoulder in a friendly manner. "C'mon, Virgey. Let's ditch this loser." We started walking as Roman whined behind us. We waved bye to Logan and Patton as we walked away.
