Later that evening, Alya called and asked to come over. I agreed of course, still reeling from how comfortable Adrien and I had been around each other, and the fact that we'd been on a date!!
She arrived around 7:00 PM, poking her head through my trapdoor.
"Guuuuurl!!! I am so proud of you!!" She said, beaming up at me as I sped down my loft stairs.
I tackled her in a hug and we both laughed goofy, ecstatic, laughs.
"So??? How are you feeling? You just went on your first ever date with Adrien Agreste, your soulmate!!!" She said, grinning, as we both sat down on my chaise.
I beamed, smashing my face into the chaise pillow, screaming into it.
"Wow, that good huh?"
I lifted my head and nodded.
"The best." I smiled, then paused, "It's just.... I can't believe that we're actually soulmates... like I don't know if my brain has entirely registered that as an actual fact. I swear, only two, three, days ago I was wondering if he would ever think of me as anything other than a friend, and now??"
I sighed happily, then frowned.
"Alya? Do you think Adrien and I will ever stop being awkward entirely? I mean, we're getting there, but it comes back when we don't know what to say, and I don't want that to be our forever... you know?"
"I gotchu girl." She paused, thinking, "When Nino and I first started dating, we didn't have our marks yet, and we were nervous we wouldn't be soulmates. I mean, not everyone ends up with their soulmate, but even at 15, we knew we loved each other and wanted a sign that, it was right, you know?"
I nodded.
Alya continued, "So when Nino's 16th birthday rolled around, the minute he found it he immediately ran to my house to show me." She smiled, remembering. "We laughed and cried, and then.... I smacked him because it was 6 am and his parents didn't know he was gone, and I had previously been sleeping."
We both laughed at that.
"You guys are so perfect for each other."
Alya smiled. "See that's what I'm saying! You and Adrien, you're meant to be! You guys will get to the point where showing up at 6 am, just because, is normal! It won't be awkward at all!! It might be now, but trust me Mari, that won't be your forever."
I dropped the pillow in favor of giving my best friend another tackle hug.
"Thank you Alya. That means a lot."
She patted my hair, my arms still around her shoulders.
"Of course Marinette. It's only the truth."
I pulled back and she smirked.
"Now... about that cat of yours."
"Ohhhhh Alya! Not right now! I don't want to think about that!" I cried, covering my ears.
"C'mon Mari!!" Alya said, pulling my hands down and away from my ears. "You'll have to face it eventually!! What else are you going to do?"
"Pretend I have a normal life for once?" I mumbled hopefully.
"nOPE!! Not happening. Sorry girl."
I pouted curling up, grabbing the pillow yet again.
"So I hear you and Mr. Noir we're having a nice flirtatious chat during the Akuma fight."
My head shot up.
"OHHHH!! WHO TOLD YOU THAT!!! Tikki!! Was this your doing???"
Tikki shook her head from her position on my desk, a cookie in her mouth.
"Wait, you were actually flirting??? I thought Rose was kidding!!"
"Rose?" I asked, curious, even though my pride was at stake, and my cheeks were probably as red as the flower in question.
"Yeah, her younger sister Jane was akumatized? Rose stayed home sick as well and was turned into a party princess, so she saw the whole thing. I thought maybe when she texted she was exaggerating but-"
"Ohhhh, fine. Since you'd probably find out some other way anyways. Yes." I grumbled, returning to my curled position, hugging the pillow to my chest.
"wHAT??? Marinette! No way!! I cannot even believe this!! Are you falling for him?!? I totally called it. I knew you would!!!"
"Alya!!" I cried, cheeks aflame, "What about Adrien!?!"
"Oh come on girl!! Like he'll find out!! Give Chat Noir a chance!! After all you do have two soulmate marks!!"
"Are you suggesting I cheat on Adrien???"
"C'mon girl!! You guys aren't even officially dating yet!!"
"Alya!!! I think the necklace he gave to me for my birthday counts!!!"
"Alright fine! Tell Chat you are "dating" your soulmate outside of the mask, but would still like to get to know him better! Even as friends!!!"
I frowned. Thinking about her last comment even as I was still processing her previous ones.
"I suppose I could do that."
"See? This won't be as complicated as you're making out to be! You can have a platonic soulmate."
"Really?" I asked, peering up at her.
She nodded emphatically.
"Yes! Like I told you, not everyone ends up in a romantic relationship with their soulmate. It's okay to just be friends."
I nodded slowly.
"Alright girl, that was a fun chat, but let's get to the party part of this late night. You said we could have snacks."
I laughed.
"I did promise you that."
"You bet you did, and I am not liable to forget it. Now let's drop the seriousness and have some fun before I have to leave."
I smiled genuinely.
"Alright! Let's get this party started!"
—————
Alya and I somehow ended up throwing popcorn at each other in the living room as we watched one of our favorite movies, Tangled.
"Try to actually catch it in your mouth this time!" I said, laughing.
"Shhhh!!! Marinette this is my favorite part!" Alya whispered, blindly smacking me in the face, her eyes focused intently on the screen.
I pushed her hand down and looked over at the tv to see Flynn and Rapunzel climbing on a boat to watch the floating lights.
I too, enjoyed this part of the movie, so we watched together in comfortable silence.
When they started singing, we first just watched and listened, but when it got to the final chorus, we both burst into song.
"And at last I see the light, and it's like, the fog has lifted.
And at last I see the light, and it's like the sky is new.
And it's warm and real and bright, and the world has somehow shifted.
All at once, everything is different, now that I see you.
Now that I see you."
We both laughed and then returned our attention to the screen, watching the remainder of the movie in near silence.
When the movie was over, we both marched to the kitchen and I got out the ice cream. I scooped some into two bowls and we sat down at the counter, the credits music still playing softly from the tv.
Alya smiled at me. "So? It was a good day after all?"
I nodded and swallowed. "Yes. I had a pretty great day. Thanks for coming over!"
She chuckled. "Thanks for letting me invite myself over!"
I grinned, "You can come over anytime, girl."
She pointed her dipping spoon at me and spoke through her ice cream, "You be careful or I might take you up on that"
"Hey! Be careful with that!" I laughed, trying to keep her from spilling melted ice cream on my pants.
She grinned with faux evil before returning her spoon to her bowl for another bite.
I laughed again.
Alya's phone lit up with a notification on the counter next to her as she finished her final bite of ice cream.
"Oh hey, girl thanks again for letting me invite myself over, but it's 9:45. I have to be home before 10:00."
I nodded and gave her a hug. "Alright, well I'll see you tomorrow then?"
"Of course you will! Love you!" She exclaimed as she ran to the door, shoving her shoes on.
"Love you too Alya!" I waved as she ran out the door and down the stairs to her car.
After Alya left, I finished my ice cream, cleaned up what little mess we had made on the counter, and turned off the tv, putting the disc away.
Once I had finished returning the living room and kitchen to its former clean state, I wished my parents a goodnight in their room, and went upstairs to my own room and collapsed on my chaise.
"Ah, Tikki, the end of a great day." I said, curling up.
"Not quite Marinette. You still have to meet Chat at 10:00 which is in.... 3 minutes."
I groaned, honestly only a little annoyed. I do enjoy hanging out with Chat Noir, but what Alya had said earlier was going to be on my mind the whole time and I was sure of it.
I sat up and watched as Tikki ate the last bit of her cookie, then stood up as she flew towards me.
"Alright, Tikki. Spots on."
