[ Y/N POV ]
I walked around the shopping district in the city, wasting time as I waited for Benevolent to show up.
We'd both decided that we would meet up around here since he had nothing better to be doing today, which was rather relieving since I didn't either. It really beats staying at home.
I gazed around the stores when a sudden urge to visit the library came. As for why, I have no clue. Perhaps I was just really bored and needed something to pass the time with.
I searched for the book store, which was easily identifiable by the bright, swirly designs surrounding the headboard above the entrance. I never really memorized what it was called, but I can definitely remember the vibrant, saturated colors that were on it. You'd think the owner would try to go for a normal color scheme, but it seems like they just generated a random color palette and slapped it onto the logo and said, "Yep, it's all coming together."
Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. I've heard the owner of the store is a rather.. strange person.
After walking for about 2 minutes, I saw the distinguishable headboard and smirked. I pushed open the door and a little ring came from above me. I looked around, taking in the scenery.
It was a small place, but it was very cozy and the book selection was immaculate. Posters hung across the pastel walls ( mostly consisting of purples ), with beautiful paintings all across. The style of them were so unique. It's like nothing you've seen before. They were abstract, but you could feel what they were doing. You could feel the energy in the painting and it sure did bring a lot of attention here.
People were sitting at tables reading together quietly, some were studying, and others were just there to be there. The variety of people here really shows that this is a safe place for a lot of people. Even though this basically my second time being here, I feel like I've known it all my life.
I walked over to the bookshelves and traced the spines of the books. A warm feeling erupted inside of my heart. I've never felt so safe in my life.
I crouched down to look at the books on the bottom of the shelf when suddenly I feel a weight hit my right leg and heard an "OOMPH!". I turned around quickly to see a man laying on the floor, gathering the fallen books that I assume were once in his hand.
"Oh, my gosh! I'm so sorry sir!" I apologize, helping him pick up the books.
He laughs, "Ah, it's really no big deal! I should have looked where I was going. Either way, you shouldn't apologize. You're the customer, so please, enjoy your time here!"
I cocked my head off to the side. "Why were you referring to me as the customer? Aren't you one too-?"
He picked himself up off of the floor and hugged the books into his chest. "No ma'am, I'm actually the owner of this place."
"Ohh!" I face palmed myself and groaned. "I really should have pieced that together."
Another chuckle came from the man.
I looked up at him and smiled as well. I took in his appearance; he was currently wearing a purple hoodie and some jeans. He wore purple shades over his eyes and his straight hair lightly draped over his eyes. He had light skin which was tanned a bit and some scars could be found on it.
My eyes darted to the books and I put my arms out. He gave me a confused stare. "Come on, I'll help you put those away if that's what you're doing."
He gives me a grateful nod. "I would, but it's your visit."
"And I'm the one who wants to use my visit to help you."
He sighed. "I guess there's no helping it. Come on, grab half."
I grab the upper books, careful not to drop them. A little "mmph" of triumph came from me as I followed the man.
As we walked, I put some away where I could find the labels. This place was surprisingly organized and neat for such a small joint. After a while though, we started playing "games" as we put the books away. Occasionally I'll have books that are on his side of the walkway and he'll have some on mine, so we decided to see how quickly we could pass the books to each other and put them in place. Sometimes, we'd do crazy poses as we placed them in their slots. I have no idea how it happened, but there was a silent agreement we'd do this the whole time.
Unknowingly, we both started speeding up. It began to become a race between who could put theirs away faster. Of course, the games from before carried over to this new one, so it'd be pretty hilarious when I passed him a book to put away and he dropped it. I guess the same thing applied to me, because when I dropped something he'd burst out laughing. People around us were skeptical and confused, but it was easy to notice that he didn't mind. It really wouldn't matter, anyway. He was the owner of the store.
This back-and-forth game between us ended in about 6 minutes. Before I knew it, I was panting and sweating a bit. The owner looked out of breath, but he still had energy left, it seemed. Man, he was in good shape!
I slid down a bookshelf near the librarian's desk and the man smiled at me. He pretty much skipped over behind the desk where the librarian would stay. That being said, I can assume that he was also the librarian.
"So," I began, "What's your name?"
He hummed, "Dynamic_Day. Though Dynamic is perfectly fine. You can even give me a nickname if you'd like!"
Well, he sure does get comfortable with people quickly. Though I can't say anything, I do as well.
"Ah, are you an [OPERATIVE]?"
He nodded. "Just like Benevolent, who I assume you've already met, I have a side job. I just-so-happened to have less [OPERATIVE] work today than usual."
"Well, I'm [Y/N]! Nice to meet you, DD."
He snickered. "What a- wonderful-- nickname."
I placed my elbows on my lower thighs and rested my face in the palms of my hands. "I know it is~."
"Then I guess I'll be calling you [nickname]!"
"Sounds good to me!"
I lay on my back and grabbed a random book from the shelf. It seemed interesting enough. "So, how long are you going to be working here? For today, I mean."
He thought about it as he scanned a few books into the system. "Maybe about twenty more minutes until someone else comes in for their shift."
I sit up excitedly. "That's great!"
He hummed in acknowledgement. "So, are you waiting for someone?"
"Eh, I was, but it seems like they aren't coming."
"A shame. Care to hang out for the rest of the day?"
"You bet!"
