The fractured soul, Pain and Gwen (Updated)

These two are a but unique, in the sense that I don't really have a comic in mind for them. Rather, they are characters that were going to be present in NOVA, a story I've more or less abandoned, though I do like the characters. You may be wondering why I drew characters for a story I won't continue... Simply put, I just got the urge to draw them, so I did.

Their story begins years after Yin's adventures, when he's become an adult and now his daughter, Rain, is training to become a huntress herself (yes, I really did plan to write a sequel series starring Yin's future daughter. I even planned to write a prequel starring his mother when she was training. Part of me is a bit sad that never did and probably never will come to pass, but then again, it'd wind up being a bit overcomplicated for a RWBY fanfiction). With Rain showing great potential and a talent for being a thorn in the maniacal Aftin's side just like her father before her, Aftin decided to create Pain, a twisted clone of Rain meant to be an unstoppable killing machine. The problem was, Pain became a bit too sadistic, even turning on her own creator and setting out to wreak her own brand of havoc. But Pain soon realized, her human side, the side that takes after Rain, was holding her back, keeping her from being truly heartless and cold blooded. Angry at this, Pain used a combination of her main power, shapeshifting, along with her Blackblood regeneration to literally cut out her humanity, which took on a life of its own, becoming Gwen (as my fellow Devil May Cry fans can guess, this part is a bit inspired by the character V). With this act, Pain's personality was broken into several pieces, most of them left with Gwen as Pain only retained her sadism and insatiable lust for violence. In retaliation, Gwen set out, hoping to find a way to stop her other half for good. Two young women, sharing a broken soul and the will to become stronger, each looking to destroy the other. But if one is destroyed, the other is left incomplete and broken forever. Can Gwen even bring herself to kill a piece of her? And if Pain comes out on top, can she truly live without a complete soul? Even if they somehow rejoin, their mind will still be broken beyond repair from the split. No matter which of them loses, no one will win...

Edit: So, while I like Gwen's design, I didn't like how Pain turned out. She just looks too... Plain really, she doesn't seem to have any real distinctive features, so I decided to make some adjustments.

Here's the improved version. While it's still not perfect, I like this design for Pain a lot better, she looks more like someone who cast out all their goodness and empathy, leaving behind what just barely resembles a human girl.
