Genesis 3:1Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from [a]any tree of the garden'?"
Genesis 3:9Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"
The enemy is a liar and thief. It will do anything in its power to separate us from God's love. In Genesis 3, the serpent was able to deceive Adam and Eve to eat from the fruit that the Lord told them not to eat from. The Lord gave us free will to choose our response to any battle that we may encounter. In this scenario, Adam and Eve failed to stick with what God gave them as a decree. As we are given free will, we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions. When Adam and Eve gave in to the deception of the enemy, their innocence was tainted and they were suddenly ashamed of how they look because they were naked.
God is our Father and as any good Father, He wants the best for us. He gives us the direction on where we should go because He knows the very things that would bless us and make us grow into the kind of person that He wanted us to be. However, humans are stubborn creatures and we pursue what we want most of the time. We are like Adam and Eve, we choose to listen to the deception of the enemy because of our selfish nature. But then in Genesis 3:9 (one of my favorite verses), the Lord - knowing everything that we've done - still asks where we are. He asked Adam and Eve where are they. God isn't asking them where they are located, but He is asking where their heart is.
The enemy can deceive us and we can fall to the trap. But God is the God of grace, He will still ask us to show ourselves. The consequences of our disobedience is shame and guilt because we wanted to always hide in the darkness for the unpleasant things we've done. Yet, God always calls us and asks us to show up in the light of His presence. Our Christian walk is an impossible journey but when we let God light the path, we will be able to finish the race victoriously. Our God is our victor. He is waiting for us at the finish line. And whenever we stumble while running the race, He shows up to bring us back to our knees. He is always beside us and He is always waiting for us.
Where are we today? What is the condition of our heart?
REFLECTION: What lie of the enemy do you need to claim victory over today when it comes to reading and studying God's Word? What is one way you are making progress in God's Word through the tool of the First 5 app? Are there people in your life who come to mind?
The enemy always wanted me to believe that in times that I fail God or I do things that are wrong, enemy inject worthlessness and despair on my shortcomings. The enemy makes me think that I am not able to be transformed and that I only sin more and more or I could never be set free from the sin that has kept me in bondage. And when those deception comes, it's hard for me to come to the Lord in prayer and reading His Word because I feel that I am not anymore worthy of His grace and love. But I know God's love says otherwise. And that whenever we come in humility and repentant heart, He is always willing to welcome us. I only get to be reminded of the truth of the Lord when I read His Word and pray and so it is of prime importance to meet the Lord everyday.
