Chapter 6

Liam

I stood frozen in shock as I just stared at the door Nick just rushed out of. Did that just happen? Am I dreaming? I felt heat rise on my cheeks.

It's now Monday morning and I'm laying on my bed still tiered. I didn't get hardly any sleep during the weekend.

"LIAM! Get up before you're late!" I heard my mom yell. I groaned and reluctantly sat up stretching and walked to the bathroom across the hall.

I walked downstairs after I finished getting ready and grabbed a fruit, yelling to my mom that I am leaving, and started my walk to school.

The middle school yard was filled with middle schoolers, gossiping and fooling around.

As soon as I walked through the doors of the school building, I was bombarded by a small, bubbly girl, named Anna. I smiled down at her and she smiled her bright smile back at me.

"Why hello to you too Anna,"

She linked our arms as we started down the hall. Anna and I have been really good friends sense last year, we actually dated for a month before I finally came out. I felt bad because she had a crush on me and asked me out and I didn't have the heart to turn her down so I said yes. Luckily she was okay with the whole gay thing. Sense then, me and her have been really good friends.

She was talking about some homework assignment, when I spotted Nick being surrounded by a group of girls. They where giggling and playing with their hair, trying to look flirty.

My thoughts then drew back to that night. I felt a strike of jealousy run through me when one of the girls put their hand on his chest. Nick was the type of guy that most were intimidated by. He never showed any emotion to anyone else but me.

I felt a sudden stinging in my chest, when I saw him put a flirtatious smile on his face and winked at the girls. The girls all blushed and started giggling uncontrollably.

I tried to swallow the lump that was forming in my throat as I kept walking with Anna. She had a quizzical and slight concerned expression on, but she didn't say anything. After a minute of silence, she broke it but talking about something totally irrelevant. I was too lost in my thought to listen to what she was saying and to watch where I was going.

I walked into a warm and hard but soft wall, my books for first period, now scattered on the floor. I heard a chuckle and I looked up to see Josh. Josh is in 8th, he is the middle school player and is openly bisexual.

I went to go apologize when I realized I had run into him, but the words got caught in my throat. I heard suppressed laughter from behind me and I looked to see Anna trying to hold in her laughter.

I spent my head around back to Josh, when I seen him bend down from the corner of my eye. I stood there gawking at him as he picked up my books. I shook my head when I realized that I should probably help him. So, I bent down as well and started to pick up my books.

When we stood up, Josh handed me the books he picked up and smiled sweetly at me. He ran his fingers through his chocolate brown hair, not breaking eye contact with me. I blushed and diverted my attention to the floor. "I'm s-sorry," I strutted out. "It's fine, you aren't hurt are you?" He asked, concern lacing his voice. I shook my head and slowly brought my head up to look at him. I can tell he was about to say something when the bell went off, startlingly me.

I looked around to see the halls empty and Anna was no longer behind me. I sprinted to my class, shouting a 'bye' to Josh as I made my way to class.

I wasn't exactly ready for the day and knew it's gonna be hella awkward, because me and Nick shared most of our classes and always sat together.

When I entered the classroom, all eyes landed on me and I was greeted with a disappointed look from the teacher. I hung my head low and made my way to my usual desk in the second to last row, Nick seated behind me.

I sighed and sat down, feeling eyes bore into the back of my head. I slumped further in my seat and let my head fall on the desk, making a semi-loud thump, but ignored it and the looks of confused students and just let darkness consume me.
