[Danielle P.O.V]
I fell into a steady routine of work and class during the next two weeks. Rick wasn't very on board with my new schedule, but I managed to convince him to let me off.
If threatening to make my best friend hang around here more often was considered convincing.
It was also nearing the end of the semester, and I was currently walking home from a celebration lunch. And it seems that I've caught the eye of a familiar face on the street.
"Oh, hey Liam. What're you doing out here?" I ask. His head snaps to me, and he subtly slips his phone in his pocket. "Just checking out this part of town." He says, looking a bit flustered. I nod, leaning on the wall beside us.
"Yeah? There are some great places around here. Some if the best places for lunch." i say, patting my stomach. He eases a little, chuckling with me. "I always seem to run into you. You're not stalking me are you?" I ask, suddenly becoming more aware of how much I see him- whether he knows it or not.
"No. I haven't noticed, actually." He says. I nod, glancing down at my feet. "So, where do you live? Around here, hopefully." I ask. He takes in a breath. "No, actually. Just visiting." He says. "Are you liking it here? Other than the terrible traffic and rude pedestrians, of course?" I ask.
He nods, checking his wristwatch. "Yeah. This is a nice area. Um, I actually have somewhere else to be. See you around?"
I cock my head to the side. "I'm sure we will. Enjoy your visit. I recommend the park." I say. He nods, walking off in a hurry. But before he makes it far, someone shoves him, making a piece of paper fall out of his hoodie.
I jog up to sidewalk, picking up the little slip. I open my mouth to call him, but as stop myself, looking down at it. I turn around, continuing my journey. I flip it over, seeing small handwriting on the back:
*8:00 pm, meet at Cold Iron Grill. Bring the goods.*
I frown, scanning over the rest of the paper. Nothing else. What is this? This doesn't sound too positive. That bar is on the really bad side of town, where all of that illegal shit goes down. Why would a nice guy like Liam be down there?
Well, he is kind of shifty. He doesn't seem like he is actually interested with the attractions in the city. I glance behind me, seeing him nowhere in sight. I stuff the paper in my back pocket, wrapping my arms around myself.
I just need to think about something else, not worry about this. It shouldn't be important. It's not my business after all. Although, I feel like I shouldn't have seen that paper.
(20 minutes later)
I shove my keys into my pocket, slamming my door shut. I sigh loudly, ready to head into my room and take a warm shower. I hear a loud crash in my kitchen, and freeze. I pick up a random heel (which Hayley probably left over), and creep into the kitchen.
There, I turn the light on, squeezing my eyes shut, jerking the heel at the stranger. I hear a squeal, and open my eyes to see Hayley bent over a shattered glass, the heel inches from her head on the counter.
I glare at her, and she smiles sheepishly. "Sup?" I roll my eyes, grabbing the broom. "What are you doing here?" I groan, sweeping up the broken glass.
She straightens herself out, hoping up on the counter. She smiles like the Cheshire cat, eyeing me. "Remember how we made that plan? To take a vacation?" She asks. I nod, sweeping the pieces into the pan.
"Well, the semester is officially over. WE'RE GOING TO VEGAS!" She yells. I nearly cut my hand, and look up at her. "Vegas?! Where'd you get the money-" I start.
She shushes me. "Don't worry about it. And tonight, we're going out!" She says excitedly. I purse my lips. This is a lot to take in. So sudden. I then remember the news from that one day, when Niall told me about the massacres. A few near California. I'd rather not go.
"Actually, Hayley. I don't think-" I start, but she pushes a finger to my lips. "Hush! We're going to the Cold Iron joint! I met this girl, um, Jessie, and she said its the best place to get wasted! Come on! Its not like you have anything better to do!" She argues.
I snort, feeling a bit insulted. "Yeah I do!" She gives me a disapproving look. "What is it then?" She taunts. I move some hair from my face. "Going on a date." I say, holding contact with her eyes. "With who? You and I know your social life is limited to, like, three people, Danni."
"With Niall!" I say. She snorts, laughing, nearly falling off the counter. "No, you're not. Nice try, though. You're going with me tonight. Wear something nice. We'll get you a boyfriend for sure tonight." She says, walking past me.
I hear my door slam, and I huff. "It was a mistake giving her that key." I mumble to myself. I love her to death, but she scares me sometimes.
Her place is way bigger than mine, but at least its better than me walking in on her and one of her boyfriends.
Next time, I'm taking her key, though. Unless she wants a heel in the side of her head.
