"Congratulations! You're both our finalists for this season of Opportunist."

Air could barely traverse my lungs as I couldn't process his words.

Did we win?

I swang my restless gaze to the one person who supported me throughout the competition.

Bryan was panting heavily as he crouched down to position his palms against his knees; his locks and tracksuit drenched like never before.

In comparison to him, a sweaty pig best described my appearance as my slicked down curls were scattered all over the place.

Ecstasy replaced my temporary shock before multiple screams of joy escaped me.

We won.

I leapt up, unable to contain my overexcitement.

After everything we sacrificed to compete, hearing we won was like an out of body experience.

My first instinct was to jump into Bryan's arms as I couldn't contain the exhilaration running through my veins.

He tightened his grip around my waist as my legs were wrapped around his waistline.

Bryan buried his nose in my collarbone as we remained in this position for what seemed like ages.

No words were exchanged between us.

After all, we mutually knew the significance of the deep bond we shared.

And winning this huge amount of money solidified how strong our friendship was.

I didn't care how we were drenched in sweat and badly needed a shower.

None of that mattered because we just won a freaking million dollars.

"I'll let you guys live the moment but there can only be one winner." The host's modulated voice summoned me into presence.

Bryan gently put me down before we diverged our focus to the host.

Even if he had to announce the winner, none of that mattered since Bryan and I made a pact before the show to divide the money between us if one of us ever won.

Although the idea of being a millionaire was out of the equation, half a million dollars still sounded pretty good to me.

No more college debts.

No more 9-5 work shifts.

And most importantly, I would have enough money to cover all her urgent surgical expenses.

I could already smell the money in my hands.

"The results are in and whoever completed the race the fastest will be crowned this year's winner."
