Nine – Confessions and Killings
Antonio Connor woke up. It was seven in the morning and he'd fallen asleep in the waiting area and without even knowing when. Francis Goodman wasn't anywhere to be seen, and it was obvious that he'd gone to meet Joanne. Tony went to the bathroom and freshened up, and a few minutes later he saw Goodman come out of Jo's room.
"How's she, good?" asked he, walking towards him.
"Yes. She's resting, said she wants to see you."
"Gave her the flowers?"
"She loved them."
"That's nice." said Connor, "Francis you've been a wonderful guy."
"Just doing my part, that's all."
"Alright, I'll see you later."
"See you around."
And with that he walked out of the building. Tony looked at him for a second and then decided to meet Joanne.
"Hey," said he, opening the door, "can I come in?"
"I was expecting you," she replied, her voice cheerful but feeble, "Francis told me you were here all night. Come in, close the door."
He walked to her.
"So, you sleep well?"
"Yeah," she answered, "you?"
"Well, kinda. Your friend dozed off after talking to me for two hours, and I dozed off an hour after that."
"What did you talk about for two hours?" she laughed.
"You."
"Me?"
"Yeah! I never knew this guy was Chewie! Come on Jo, why'd you keep this whole new set of friends away from us?"
"They're more like family, you know." she answered, "His dad's a wonderful guy. Mom works as a nurse, full time. Pretty woman. And his sister..."
"I know, I've heard."
"She's the best."
"You knew she was out of town, right?"
"Yes. But I never expected the flowers."
"They're good people."
"They really are. Anyways, you tell me what the deal with Sierra and the gang is."
"Whoa!" he cried, "Where's this coming from?"
"I want to know if there's gonna be any more trouble that any of us should be prepared for."
"Don't worry about it." was the answer, "Danny's dead."
"I know that. How's David?"
"He gave me a call last night after he got rid of the body..."
"He what!? Oh God!"
"Shhh! You're gonna make people think there's something else going on in here, and I could get in a lot of trouble for that. So you need to calm down. Just relax okay? He was the one who volunteered to do it. I'll talk to him to make sure he's fine and everything."
"When?"
"Right after I'm done talking to you."
"Okay. You do that, Tony. I don't want anyone hurting my brother."
