THE HARDEST THING ABOUT planning a masquerade ball as a Halloween party had not been the planning at all. People were thoroughly excited about hearing what this year's theme was.

Most of the students had their dress robes and gowns sent slowly over the course of the last few weeks so as not to pique the curiosity of the professors, and many had acquired their own dates.

Many, but not the Marauders.

During breakfast, the eve before Halloween, the Lupin family owl, Otus had flown in along with the other owls.

In his claws were a large package, no doubt the dress robes Remus had been expecting from his parents.

"Is that what you'll be wearing?" James peered at the package, reading the address that was scrawled on the top.

"Open it!" Peter clapped.

"No, of course, I won't be opening it here. I don't want any of the teachers figuring it out. That would just be careless," Remus breathed, moving the box below the table.

"I'm surprised your worrywart self hadn't asked for it the moment we planned the party," Sirius said, preening himself through a spoon.

Remus patted him on the back harshly, causing the makeshift mirror to drop back into Sirius' porridge.

He rolled his eyes and picked it back up, licking its surface clean.

"Oops," Remus quipped, feigning innocence.

"Speaking of the party, had you all gotten dates yet or are you going stag?" James asked, wriggling his eyebrows at his pun.

"You're such a dog, James." Sirius joined in.

"We shouldn't talk about this here, so you lot should wolf down your breakfast," Remus smirked.

"I— wait! I can't think of my own pun." Peter gaped, his eyes flitting back and forth.

James tousled Peter's hair and draped his arm around him, "Don't worry about it, Peter. We know your brain isn't clever enough for such things."

Peter's gaze lowered to his feet, and he ate his bacon in silence.

"Make way everybody!" Sirius screeched, moving everyone that was blocking his path.

Behind him came James & Remus, carrying in Peter's petrified body.

"What happened?" A random girl asked, staring at the squat boy's figure.

They placed his body on the common room sofa, right in front of the lit fireplace.

"Is he going to be alright?" Another student wondered aloud, peeking from in between the shoulders of everyone that had gathered around the group.

All of the Gryffindor students had gone out from their dorms to watch what was going on.

"Woah there, what's with all the commotion?" Hazel yelled out, pushing past the hoards of students.

When she reached the front of the mob, she had found lying on the couch was Peter Pettigrew, jittering nervously as though he had seen a ghost.

"Sirius, what's going on? Is he alright?"

"He's fine."

"He doesn't look fine, you should've taken him to the Hospital Wing."

"He's not hurt or anything, he's just stunned."

Hazel's eyes widened at this, her breath hitching. "What do you mean stunned? Was he hit with a jinx?"
