Sophia's POV °before the encounter°
I was over at Rezz's house hanging out with her and Demitri. We all had been friends since we were born because our family's go back far, really far. They had met some time around forever ago, Rezz's lots of great grandmothers was running away from her husband whom was trying to kill her. She stumbled across my lots of great grandmother's who had helped her and kept her safe. Later on down the road Dimitri's lots of great grandfather's and mothers were running after a theif when me and Rezz's lots of great grandparents saw this and jumped in to help since then they have been great friends and stuck together.
We were all having a good time watching TV, when my mother sent me a text saying that it was time to come home. I didn't live all that far away maybe about 2 miles, but that wasn't much for me seeing how I had to run at least 17 miles to maintain my fitness for hunting. After our really great grandparents met, they all found out about demon slayers and decided to become them, and it's now something our families pass down to each new generation. I had to run and work out a lot to stay fit, and stand a chance against any threats that could pop up because a demon's speed, endurance, and toughness are all higher, not to mention that they feel almost no pain. It's a tough fight, but thankfully our parents raised us for this with harsh workout regimens.
I said my good byes and said that I would see if I could come over tomorrow. I put on my plain dark red hoodie and started to walk home. On my way home I looked up at the sky and breathed out watching my breath cover the night sky's stars. It was a cold night for late November however being a hunter my body temperature was higher than most normal people. After a human passes a test to see if they can become a hunter they undergo another test, if they survive the transformation they can become a hunter if not...they die. After the transformation they get better night vision, hearing ,sight ,speed ,accuracy , and their body temperature goes up because when fighting a demon you have to be able to withstand their ice cold breath and air that surrounds them. Why do you think that some people are always so cold?
As I'm looking at the stars I hear someone walk in front of me from quite the distance away, had to have been an intentionally heavy step. Actually probably more like a loud stomp judging by how far away they are. I stop walking and look down and take in a sharp breath out of fear. This is an intentional attack, they know I'm a hunter and that i would be able to hear them taking that big step. I stand there frozen for a moment while we just stare at each other for a moment. The person in front of me is the same person who almost every hunter fears and hates at the same time. I can tell before he even gets close enough to fully see his face past more than a blur, due to the unforgettable deep wet bone chilling air creeping on from where he stood beyond me. This kind of chill only comes from someone of high power, and with power like that they're defiantly internally sending down the cool chill as they could easily mask it. I may not know who he is but I do know why he's here tonight. He changes hunters in to demons and most die or the demon takes over the body controlling their actions. The person that you use to know is no longer themselves. They're replaced with a demon from hell that will hold your loved one as a prisoner constantly torture them with endless mind games. A hunter almost never survives the transformation because of how rare it is to receive a weak demon. Weaker demons typically don't have the energy in them to be able to share theirs onto someone else while the transformation takes place. I stood there looking at him as all these thoughts going through my head. Waiting for him to say something my heart starts racing. Sure I may have been raised for this and had my fair share of tough fights, but none of my past exactions and blessings could have come close to this encroaching sharp piercing chill I feel now completely wrapping itself around me. Knowing what was most likely going to happen next, I just let out a deep breath to steady myself while looking up at him. Making eye contact with him, now standing in front of me, I tilt my head back, Pulling my chin up to expose my neck.
"Are you ready?" His smooth deep voice asks me as a feral smile crept onto his face with his piercing red eyes widening with it.
I nod my head slightly, holding my eye contact with him. Not that I had a choice anyways. I knew that everyone who knows about the demon world and knows me would be ashamed of me. Calling me a disgrace because I didn't even put up a fight against him, however I knew their was no escaping him. I would rather take him on and at least put up a fight then just let him kill me or run away. With him changing me I at least had a hope. A hope that i could hold on during the transformation, I've already been through one test of strength becoming a hunter. At best i come out stronger, at worst I don't survive but at least i didn't just run. I never liked the thought of just giving up and hated the way everyone always taught us to run or let demons like him kill us. God knows how many times Rezz and Demitri would have to help me clean my wounds or sometimes even help me walk after I would speak my mind to one of our instructors. I would always keep telling them that our ways of running were wrong and the ways of a coward, oh the beatings I got for calling everyone a coward.
"Good, however I'm not quite ready yet." He said with his facial expressions changing suddenly.
