It was a rainy Monday afternoon and I'm freezing in my office. I'd turned the Air condition off but the weather itself was a thing on its own. Sometimes I wonder how I survived my stay at London when I visited my extended family on Christmas breaks. Work today  has been a piled load. Being the head of the Megason's Milk Company came with a lot of responsibilities. There are different companies with different productions under the Megason Group of Companies. I chose the milk making sector because of the little cowgirl skills involved. I love going to the cow farm to watch how the milking is done. Seldom do I milk a cow but I'll still dress like a gringa and go there. Actually that's the only fun part about this work. The rest is signing a heep of files and checking the distribution list . I should have come out of school with poor grades so my dad wouldn't have to bestow on me such a big responsibility. I've been battling with my emotions for the past weeks now and Lexis is the reason behind it all. Just before lunch break, my personal assistant, Henrietta brought to me a couple of mails. Usually, I would ask her to read my mails and tell me what it says better still reply them on my behalf but I took the responsibility of reading them all. The mails were ten in all but the one in the middle caught my attention with its beautiful designs. Business proposal mails normally comes in plain envelopes so it got me curious with its green and violent designs. I pulled it from the the middle of the lots and curiosity got me tearing it from its side.  I opened it up and the first page read Divorce Decree. This mail might probably have missed its true recipient because the last thing my husband would think of is to let me slip through his fingers. I proceeded reading downwards just to know the name of the plaintiff since I have three marriage women working with me and I know their husbands as well.  The writtens first made known of the court in charge of the case. It read, "Plaintiff Lexis Miltmore, who currently resides at Airport City in Accra, Ghana since 18th July 2020. Defendant is Natalie Megason who currently resides at Airport City at Accra in Ghana. Plaintiff and/or defendant  has/have been a bona fide in the Commonwealth for at least six months previous to the filing of this complaint. The plaintiff and defendant married on 16th October 2020 at Labadi  Beach Hotel- La, Accra Ghana.........."

I felt thread of sweats forming on my forehead. The weather has suddenly changed from cold to sulphur hot.
I  didn't read further as my vision was blurred by my trickling tears. How could Lexis file for a divorce without letting me know first? We live under the same roof for crying out loud.  We've not even been married for six months as it says in the letter. He has maneuvered his way into paying off the lawyers. Aren't there laws in this country anymore? This is total disrespect on my side. How could he humiliate me this way I was boiling with uncontrollable rage. I didn't even bother to turn the sheet to read the other two pages instead, I stuffed them in my bag not caring of it crumpling. I pressed the intercom and spoke to my P.A Henrietta.
"I've something urgent to attend to. I doubt I'll be able return back here again. Kindly check all the mails on my table and you can also have the rest of the day off ok?"
"Yes ma'am"  she said excitedly over the phone and I hanged up. I checked one of my wardrobes which contains my emergency clothes and picked my Armani overall and wore it over my jeans trousers and top.  Using the my private elevator. I chattered and uber. As my trembling and pulsating anger didn't qualify me to drive. The security outside came to my side right after he sighted me and shaded me with an umbrella, to prevent me from getting wet and he led me to my waiting car and I thanked him. I told the uber driver where we were heading to, he didn't even use his google map as they often do because Miltmore  Corporations was very famous.

Accra and its terrific weekdays traffic made us last an hour and half on the road when we could have used forty five minutes to reach there. I paid the driver and got down from the car. A sense of deja vu hit me and my mind drifted to I first came here to threaten Lexis for agreeing to marry me but here I'm again to question him on his reasons for filing for a stupid divorce. This life is indeed is not balanced at all. Thank God the rain had stopped by then and the sun was gradually showing its face. I really don't like it when it rain because I get very cold when it does, my desire for being cuddled increases. Above it all, I think about those living on the streets. All they have is the front of a store and it being raided by water means they have to sweep the water out and stand in the cold nights to wait for the place to dry up. I'm a humanitarian and it always breaks my heart when I think of the poor and needy.
I walked in after the securities greeted me with their heads bowed. One of the securities even offered to carry my bag but I declined.  The same receptionist I met the other time was behind her desk and was checking something on her computer. "Good afternoon" I greeted her to announce my presence. Her face beamed with undoubted surprise when she rose her head.

"Good afternoon Mrs. Miltmore" she greeted back attaching my husbands last name to mine with her head bowed. That alone made me feel like crying. To think that I that last name wouldn't be attached to my name in a couple of days to come.
"Is my husband around?" I asked her emphasizing on the word husband.
"No madam, he left here right after lunch and told me he wouldn't return till tomorrow."
"Oh I see" I stated. "Did he tell you where he was leaving to? I mean his phone is off" I added, not wanting to create suspicions.
"No madam, but you can find out from his P.A on the 6th floor. That's if you don't mind." She told me.
"No, I don't mind at all." I replied her with a smile and thanked her. Heading towards the elevator, I recalled the last time I came here. Lexis wasn't having a personal assistant when I came or I just didn't get the chance to meet him with regards to how I announced my presence? I pressed sixth floor the moment I entered the elevator and waited patiently for it to come to a stop. Bing!! It made a sound to announce that I've reached my destination and its ironed doors opened. Other workers were outside waiting for me to come out before they enter. They all greeted me in unison, bowing their heads. What's going on here? The treatment I'm receiving now is different from the one I got the last time I came here. Does that mean that Lexis.....? No no that can't happen, that guy hates me, no he can't order his employees to treat me like a queen in his empire.
